Just tried Eureka for first time...

I was in a party with three others, we were all around level 7.... I was the tank... Holy crap this was fun! We were just chaining bombs like in final fantasy 11... And to some extent like in final fantasy xiv 1.0! And the danger omg... We wiped, but luckily a high level mage was there to rez us!

I tried Bozja in the past, but it felt nothing like this.

I really hope the devs experiment more with Eureka style content for 7.0 and beyond... To me all that was missing was making the skills and abilities a little slower, but more impactful.... And you'd have a more refined version of final fantasy xiv 1.0 and to some extent a more streamlined version of final fantasy 11.

I can confidently say the devs definitely tried to do something that would cater to the final fantasy 11 crowd.

Eureka was quite popular in its day, though there are many on the forums who would attempt to convince people otherwise. It's a pity they opted for quests alone for the EW relic instead of another zone like it.

Manderville is more popular than they anticipated and they wanted it to be more worth the time to create, so here we are.

They won't be worth the time to create until they SE stops staggering their item level so hard, regardless of what they are gated behind. The relics were well worth it in ARR and Heavensward since they would become BiS in a much more reasonable timeframe. What we have now is... I mean, why even bother? Whoopdie do, that weapon you wasted a bunch of time on is BiS for like a week. Putting them behind Manderville quests was just the icing on the cake.

I might've considered going all in on them anyway if we'd gotten another Eureka. Even Bozja was... well, Bozja was okay, at least. I might've gone for another Bozja-type deal too, albeit not with anywhere near the same interest as I might've had for something even remotely close to Eureka.

I'm talking about the work that goes into the Manderville scenes being worth the time.

What? You don't think spending 1500 tomestones is fun?

I mean, it was and still is the only way to get Stormblood's relics. Of course it was popular back in its day. Whether it was actually any fun or not will largely depend on who you ask. Personally, I hated it from start to finish both my first and second time through, but I loved Bozja due to being able to hop in and out of those areas on a whim and still being able to make meaningful progress.

I remember trying Eureka the first time it got out, I basically had to stay in the starting area, killing the same enemies and each taking at least 2-3 minute until I gave up 3-4 hours later (which only gave me like, 6 or 7 levels). Had no fun at all.
Same for Bozja, except I lasted 30 minutes before I quit.

Notice they said level 7 meaning they were in Anemos.

Anemos WAS fun, It was social.

Then Pagos came along, and the developers made it to actively conflict with the players preferred playstyle, and sucked the souls out of a lot of Warriors of Light.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Yeah. I didn't like Anemos, but I felt Eureka had potential still, so I was cautiously optimistic about Pagos. I had hoped that they would improve upon the first zone a bit. Oh boy was I wrong. Pyros was basically Anemos 2.0 but with easier access to NMs. Still didn't like Eureka then, but it was without a doubt an improvement over Pagos as far as zone design and enemy placement was concerned. The random weapon stats though.... oof. I hated having to reroll my weapon chasing a good stat set. It was as if they learned how the players wanted to approach this content, but they decided to frustrate them anyway. When Hydatos came out, I was just...done. I got what I wanted and left. Came back after EW launch for the SMN relic, but I was able to skip most of the grind by having a lot of the materials already. Thank the Twelve for that.
