Feint - Given to healers as a role action, "Protect"Something that they should honestly do at this point is just get rid of mits from melee and casters and just give them to healers. Man those were the days when sch still had virus and astro disable. They couldn’t think of anything to give whm so they just got rid of both.
Addle - Given to healers as role action, "Shell"
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

I think the split nonsense needs to go.
Pure healers are currently basically shield healers without the good stuff (mit, free shields) while shield healers drown in regens and bring burst heals on top of mit and free shields. They didn't properly split the healers, they just made half of them straight up better. They either need to redesign the toolkits on a fundamental level to properly reflect the type or scrape their whole attempt at splitting healers into subroles. But since they want to make sure that even little Timmy who prefers to watch Netflix on his 2nd monitor needs to be able to easily spam all HP bars to full no matter which class he choses, you'll not see shield healers having a proper weakness - so they just ended up as "pure healer but better".
Screw the split, give AST and WHM proper mitigation tools and let people play whichever comp they want without arbitrary healer splits.
"You'll need one of each" my ass. SGE/ SCH is cheat mode starting at min ilvl while AST/ WHM struggles outside parties that mitigate extremely well and bring decent gear.

I largely agree with you, and there is precedent to ignore / revert the split (they wanted dedicated MT / OT jobs and we all saw how that went), but for now the devs are set on the healer split.I think the split nonsense needs to go.

AST's dual role nature caused problems since the day it was implemented. The Devs can barely manage to balance healers as it is and you want them to touch AST again after what they did to the cards?

The split nonsense does indeed need to go. Artificially limitating them to regen/barrier has caused too much troubleI largely agree with you, and there is precedent to ignore / revert the split (they wanted dedicated MT / OT jobs and we all saw how that went), but for now the devs are set on the healer split.

Once again though I will remind you noct ast did not cause problems, its the dev attitude towards it that caused problems such as being unable to stack its shields and anti synergy. In addition it was a unique healer style for a time while diurnal was just a whm clone.
Making noct ast equal to diurnal would have helped a lot. But we know the devs don't give a shit about healers most of the time

Noct absolutely did cause issues when it was implemented early. It's heals where stronger than SCH's (potency wise), were instant, and didn't stack with SCH. Early on, they basically made SCH irrelevant. The split nonsense does indeed need to go. Artificially limitating them to regen/barrier has caused too much trouble

They were nerfed due to those facts. The issue after the nerf was, they were too weak and their cards didn't make up for the gap in healing (this was when healing was actually a thing before the max dps meta)

I mean, they're already planning to do a rework of Astro. Giving it Noct to serve as a Protect/Shell equivalent would be fine.
