I can't help but wonder what it is that convinced numerous Mamool Ja to sail all the way across the ocean to Eorzea in search of greener pastures.

They are mentioned as having some kind of supreme leader akin to the Overmind of the Gnath in a Gubal book, so perhaps his rule is not universally adored by his subjects.

New World Mamool Ja quests are going to be the best, I'm calling it.

As an Australian and nerd about established lore I'm a little more hopeful we're going to Meracydia first (it'd be really interesting to see if there's identifiable descendants of the Warring Triad's summoners), but the 'cities of gold' is the thing that grabs my interest about the New World. Partly because that sounds like they're putting a take on El Dorado as the first foot forward, which sounds both pretty fun on its face as well as kind of respectful in a funny way; that suggests an inclination to treat the New Worlders as people who've made great achievements in their own right, rather than the colonialist angle of treating them as less advanced.

There's also the interesting extra element of the Golden Dhaya from the Studium quests. In all honesty I find its 'prophecy' uninteresting, but what I do find neat is that it's based on one of the Quimbaya Artifacts. The game puts the Dhaya's history as inconclusive, but the Quimbaya Artifacts in real life were found in Colombia, which happens to be the same region as where El Dorado was purported to be.

I personally do not want a New World expansion because I am extremely worried that they will do something embarrassing.

I'd be okay with a New World expansion if they do the story in a non-colonialism way. Such as us there, just exploring, accidentally letting out the resident "sealed evil" being, end up having to help stop it from getting its revenge on a small kingdom (it doesn't care about anything else in the world, it just wants revenge here and only here).

Money, allegedly. As in, the Mamool Ja sell their services as mercenaries, and post-Calamity Eorzea is full of conflicts. I believe there's also side dialogue that many Mamool Ja enemy groups are mercenary groups between jobs, or who got stiffed on payment.

Exactly why Eorzean money is so tempting is a mystery, I agree. There's a line about how hiring themselves out as mercenaries is part of the Mamool Ja showing off their military prowess, but again I don't know if this is worth sailing half a world away.

The supreme leader is called "the Autarch", but we (as in Eorzeans) only know this because of Ketenramm, the initial explorer of the New World. Still, nobody has contradicted this so far despite the flourishing trade with the New World, so it's probably true. Ketenramm also said the Mamool Ja state is a city-state, singular; I don't know if this is actually the case, or if Ketenramm was imposing his beliefs about Mamool Ja society due to his Eorzean assumptions.

I wonder if maybe we'd run into "real" Carbuncles over there given that they're from South American mythology.

Given that proto-Carbuncle seemed to be a flesh and blood creature, perhaps it ended up with a more...practical and accepted concept akin to how the hippocampus led to the creation of kelpies.

They're just going to reuse Midlander/Highlander models as they see fit and slap a New World Hyur tag on them in a lore book. Wouldn't even be surprised if they end up having player-inaccessible color palettes too.
I'm surprised you also didn't mention Ishgardian Elezen in addition, the easiest excuse to add High Elves to the game.
