I can't help but wonder what it is that convinced numerous Mamool Ja to sail all the way across the ocean to Eorzea in search of greener pastures.

They are mentioned as having some kind of supreme leader akin to the Overmind of the Gnath in a Gubal book, so perhaps his rule is not universally adored by his subjects.

New World Mamool Ja quests are going to be the best, I'm calling it.

Money, allegedly. As in, the Mamool Ja sell their services as mercenaries, and post-Calamity Eorzea is full of conflicts. I believe there's also side dialogue that many Mamool Ja enemy groups are mercenary groups between jobs, or who got stiffed on payment.

Exactly why Eorzean money is so tempting is a mystery, I agree. There's a line about how hiring themselves out as mercenaries is part of the Mamool Ja showing off their military prowess, but again I don't know if this is worth sailing half a world away.

The supreme leader is called "the Autarch", but we (as in Eorzeans) only know this because of Ketenramm, the initial explorer of the New World. Still, nobody has contradicted this so far despite the flourishing trade with the New World, so it's probably true. Ketenramm also said the Mamool Ja state is a city-state, singular; I don't know if this is actually the case, or if Ketenramm was imposing his beliefs about Mamool Ja society due to his Eorzean assumptions.
