You could just relinquish them and be done with the system if you think so little of it. That would give at least a few other players a chance to enter the system and make their own decision.

Also, selling for gil isn't against ToS. What's against ToS is selling for real money, or purchasing with the intent to resell (whether for gil or real money). You could resell for the same price you paid in the first place.\

Too late, you already did that. The gil is spent and gone. You're left with something you don't enjoy. Holding onto it does not bring the gil back. The sunk cost fallacy is not your friend.

Getting rid of the houses would at least let you reclaim part of that 100+M. FC houses could be sold intact to players who want a house and are willing to go the FC route to get one. On the personal houses, you can invite people in as tenant to buy what furnishings they want. Any leftover furnishing could be desynthed for materials to sell/use and anything still left after that sold to vendor or discarded.

You've presented yourself as an example of part of what is wrong with the system - people clinging to something they don't care about for nonsensical reasons while others who would enjoy having the access are locked out. Not to say that it's entirely your fault - the system is badly designed. But you could choose to make a small but positive difference by letting go of what you don't want yet refuse to do it.
