Funny, most of people I talk to have their criticisms(even if they enjoy it) towards endwalker. Not all of them strongly dislike it as I do, but a good chunk is not that fond of it.
I guess it depends on the kind of people you interact with, but I'd not say that the absolute majority likes it.

I think the majority of FFXIV players do probably either like it or are indifferent about it, but I think there is a growing portion of the community and playerbase who do dislike it, and if the game were to remain on that same path, that portion will only grow. I personally have been more content as things like viera have gotten their updates, but I'd still like to see SE do more.

I just want 7.x to be a more "down to earth" expansion that gives a singular continent/region the time it needs and doesn't split the narrative across several parts of the world and/or time/space.

I'd want that to be Ilsabard ideally, but all this talk of surprise and subverting expectations is concerning me.

Except... Dissidia kind of is canon? (insomuch as the original Dissidia is basically a loose prequel to the very first FF, despite the presence of characters from other FF games - the rest just have excuse plots to explain why you can have Cloud beat up Tidus for instance or Vaan be utterly destroyed by Shantotto with fire spells).

Dissidia's worldbuilding can be canon inside Dissidia without necessarily also being true in the other stories that are connected in the Dissidia universe. It can be a one-way crossover.

If it gets indicated within FFXIV that Dissidia is canon to it, that would be different. Until then, it can't be assumed.

I knew they were coming back, and I still did cry all through that sequence. They're not relying on you believing it; you just need to accept that's how the characters must be feeling in the moment.

Its a shame that Elidibus' crystal didn't want to do anything like that. I wonder if the memoria, or Azems crystals are capable of that. Just being like a force of nature, almost a god-archetype character if you will, to just mcguffin itself all the time.

Hydaelyn's crystal is charged with light-aspected aether. Zero is overcharged with dark-aspected aether. Brought together, they react and cancel each other out.

Different crystals do different things. As discussed earlier, Azem's crystal seems more like an instruction booklet for the summoning spell than any sort of power source.

The fact that we used hydaelyn/azem's crystal to purify zero in another world that she doesn't even want to save is wild to me. This is after y'shtola told us not to use the crystal way before we beat meteion because it had little power left.

i forgot to address this earlier from the OP.

From memory, Y'shtola telling us to not use the crystal at that point has nothing to do with it having little charge left, and everything to do with what the Scions' sacrifices are doing. They're changing the dynamis-based landscape to an aether-based one and making it something we can interact with and air we can breathe. Summon them back, and we're left floating in space.

It's only once we summon Hades and Hyth to work stronger creation magic over everything that we no longer need their aether supporting the world, and can safely bring them back.

In any case, we were saving the limited charge in Hydaelyn's crystal for that moment, and now that moment has long passed, and if there's still a bit of charge left in the crystal then we can use it (or it can spontaneously use itself) on anything it seems worth using on.

You also forgot that NT failed horribly so Dissidia is a shelfed project as far as SE is concerned. Now if only they had another game where they can bring in cameos. Perhaps a game in which the lore allows for multiple dimensions that may or may not be connected to the other universes of the FF franchise. Oh well, see you in 7.0! :^)

It doesn't really matter tbh. I don't really want to get into a discussion about crystals. Hydaelyns crystal is a mcguffin, at least as of right now.
The entire 13th is dark aether, so under your principle Hydaelyns crystal should be responding to everything. From the memoria crystals that Zero makes which is the sealed dark aether of, as examples, scarmiglione to every creature in the 13th that she slices and dices into crystal cubes, and everything in between. But nope, its the voidsent that was enslaved by ebil Zenos, who gets saved by Hydaelyns mighty saving light to purify the new best friend. To guide the plot.
