If they are going to rely on the books for gear that you could not get during an actual clear, then no gear pieces should require more than 2 books, period. I think that is a fair trade for those who consistently roll low on loot.

I mean, yeah. Been like that for god knows how long. To think this is even the improved version too.
SE really needs to fix this system. They allow you to play any class, but at the same time punish you for trying to gear up an alt and that's not mentioning if you're unlucky with drops. It could take you around 16 weeks to get fully geared up.
What I dislike is that when you go for a weapon on the 4th tiers or in the extreme raid, it gives 1 weapon, and 1 coffer for weapon... and it may happen that the weapon drop is for none of the jobs actually in the raid. At least make the weapon drop to be for the jobs in the raid.
People who upvote you have zero clue about how awful books were and probably still even with adjustments. Its STILL 16 WEEKS of clearing last floor for chest and weapon if you are unlucky and do it with randoms in pf.
And books doesnt save savage from being dead in pf. On light dc on week 8-9 of last tier you would expect people putting bis log parties but instead each week it was less and less people doing savage.

It could be how things were in coil.
And I'm sure things average out for people across tiers. The system works for the average person.
I am average person. I play second tier from week 1. System doesnt work and need adjsutments. If its ok for you then idk, maybe play savage more instead defending se here?
At the very least meme random weapon drop in last floor should be reworked. I have cleared p4s many times and NEVER saw sam weapon drop. The hell, first p4s kill had weapon drop no one could USE.

I've done almost every savage tier since coil. I've cleared every savage tier since eden while current.
Maybe you shouldn't judge how people feel about loot systems based on how fast they clear a tier lol.
And it already sucks getting 3 DRK weapon drops, imagine if it just dropped 1/8 weapons instead of 1/17 or w/e were up to now.
Even higher duplicate chances.
I still say they need to change who tome and raid stuff works, like, gettin a piece should unlock it for all jobs so that i only have to gather uncapped tome to buy the others. The same should be for raid gear...
I have raid in quite a few MMO, and FF14 probably have the most generous system, and it's getting more generous each expack I feel. But I guess it's just never generous enough for some people?
No worry, the rate it's going, giving it a couple more expack and you'll get what you want ... probably.
It may be generous for getting one job geared, but XIV is a game that is supposed to encourage you to play multiple jobs, but the loot system and equipment system clash with that immensely. I think it's fine to have the system start out more stingy with gear and currencies, but it should get smoother and faster the more time passes and/or the more loot you claim to allow you to more effectively gear up multiple jobs. Once you've gotten one job at BiS, you've already proved that you can do the grind. Why not make it faster and faster the more jobs you gear to allow you to potentially gear every job over the course of several months if you put in the work?I have raid in quite a few MMO, and FF14 probably have the most generous system, and it's getting more generous each expack I feel. We also really need Materia loadouts as well to be able to cater to multiple jobs within the same gear type.
What's there to gatekeep for people who've already proven themselves? Why is it greedy or selfish to ask for the ability to engage with the game's job system at its maximum more easily and effectively for a game that you support with a monthly subscription?
