I guess it could have been the crystal. Or the darkness came from the summoned beings. Hopefully we get an answer to that in the future.
But because we take their bodies to the Source, they essentially become mortal, due to the fact that we HAVE a Lifestream there. A death with their original body on the Source could equal them forcibly dragged into the Lifestream, something that couldn't happen on the 13th because they don't really have a proper one there. Or at least that's how I'd write it.
I really hope that dying cleanse their souls, or else we might have a few problems down there. But because we take their bodies to the Source, they essentially become mortal, due to the fact that we HAVE a Lifestream there. Between Pandaemonium and the prophecy in the Studium, the lifestream really don't need dead voidsents infecting it.
But i guess it's fine if it's only a couple of voidsents being send there.
Considering it can cleanse Zodiark's Tempering and handle the souls of Ancients (so far), I'm pretty sure it can handle voidsent.I really hope that dying cleanse their souls, or else we might have a few problems down there.

May also tie into why Hydaelyn’s crystal reacted to Zero. Her powers are umbral in nature, maybe even light-based.In addition, it seems sealing aether in the form of a memoria isn't simply trapping a soul inside a crystal similar to what happens with the ascians and auracites. Instead, it's a stasis form of aether where it's crystallized.
While this explanation is pure speculation, it does explain where the crystal came from, how it works, and probably why it can't be reversed by known means.

Well they all desperately want to come here, so they clearly think it is worth the risk. But because we take their bodies to the Source, they essentially become mortal, due to the fact that we HAVE a Lifestream there. They ARE kind of stuck in a fate worse than death. Eat or get eaten, only come back when the thing that has eaten you has been destroyed temporarily, and the thing that ate you may get EATEN by you. A true death on the Source would be a mercy.

It should also be noted that, while there's a lot of voidsent that do want to come to the Source, pretty much the only exceptions we've actually met are the ones that we crystallized. Scar and Barb seemed pretty happy terrorizing the Void, and while we know Golbez has greater plans, they seem more conquest-y.
