People who say "first time" in new content

I always let people know when I'm new in case there's any particular mechanic I should know about that could potentially cause a wipe since I mostly play healer. I assume others do the same, I think it's fine to do and you lose nothing from it.

i say it because i'm a tank main and it means i may not pick up as much as i normally would (or may pick up too much) because i'm not sure how to do it efficiently quite yet.

also as a warning in case square randomly remembers that tank interrupts are a thing and a phys ranged dps may need to interrupt for me if i'm too slow because i have 20 targets.

Rhetorical question: I wonder what the reaction would be if, rather than say "I'm new" (which would be a lie) I were just to say "I'm not new but I AM crap at this"?

I mean, I've seen a lot of trial roulette dropping me into the level 83 trial and people seeing where they ended up and going "Oh. Uh, so, fair warning, I haven't done this content since the expansion released, so I apologize if I have forgotten everything and die a lot." (And then me going "Well, trial roulette likes to put me here, so I can play Safety Dorito if needed.")

Yeah, without that extreme weapon I'm undergeared and I really do not feel like progging extreme. At least I can argue with myself that savage gear is unobtainable, with extreme, it's just me not wanting to deal with people, or put in the time to prog.

If you have a set of i610 gear and weapon, anyone who calls you "undergeared" for not having the Windswept EX weapon is being, honestly, unreasonable. Especially if you're not doing savage.

Yeah, I've been thinking about buying crafted gear, I usually do not do so, but I might have to if I want to do any relevant content. I don't like spending the gil, and I don't really do a lot of content where it's even necessary. I think my standards of being undergeared are a bit different than some others. I typically like to have my WHM up to date, and maybe my tank, for the dungeon achievement mount grind, and/or one DPS.

Like I said, if you can snag the tomestone materials, I can make you a set of i610 healer gear, no charge; we're on the same datacenter, so that's easily enough done. I'm just a little short on a few of the timed node materials, so if you do want me to do this, let me know so I can wander around during my lunch break to restock on haritaki and such.

I'm sure most people would appreciate the honesty. At least I would.
There has been times when I get some rare trials/dungeons popped, I would just say "I don't remember this lol".
Or people said nothing, we wiped, THEN people start admitting they don't remember and we all laugh.


I often use this too when I was leveling tank for the first time.

It doesnt matter! If you cant heal yourself as a healer when you see a group wide aoe and instead you wanna tunnel the boss like noonelse's business, AND DIE AS A RESULT OF SAID LACK OF HEALING, then you can go troll with your trusts instead.

Leave the group and let people that actually want to do content with others.

I've done "I have no memory of this place" before. It's had some chuckles, and one time the rest of the party actually agreed and there was some fun failing through. There's so much stuff to do in the game I'd say it's not unreasonable to forget the stuff you've done a few times (or in my case, more than enough times but some brain cells might've died off since). As long as you're upfront, honest, and humble about it*, it's really fine.

*Edit: and do your best at it, too!
