Rhetorical question: I wonder what the reaction would be if, rather than say "I'm new" (which would be a lie) I were just to say "I'm not new but I AM crap at this"?

I'm sure most people would appreciate the honesty. At least I would.
There has been times when I get some rare trials/dungeons popped, I would just say "I don't remember this lol".
Or people said nothing, we wiped, THEN people start admitting they don't remember and we all laugh.
I often use this too when I was leveling tank for the first time.

I was actually thankful the tank in leveling roulette last night (Hauke Manor) told us he was newish to tanking. It allowed me to pull my punches on AOE a little longer than usual until he got aggro well and allowed us to sort of guide him through the place.
Good news. I sometimes use [I don't remember] in eden normal raidsI'm sure most people would appreciate the honesty. At least I would.

I've done "I have no memory of this place" before. It's had some chuckles, and one time the rest of the party actually agreed and there was some fun failing through. There's so much stuff to do in the game I'd say it's not unreasonable to forget the stuff you've done a few times (or in my case, more than enough times but some brain cells might've died off since). As long as you're upfront, honest, and humble about it*, it's really fine.
*Edit: and do your best at it, too!
I definitely made the Gandalf meme quip the last time mentor roulette dropped me in the Odin trial.
(And then I veeeery quickly went and skimmed a wiki page for it. Which, thankfully, was enough to refresh me on "oh right, that's how this goes" and help folks get through.)
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer
