I was actually thankful the tank in leveling roulette last night (Hauke Manor) told us he was newish to tanking. It allowed me to pull my punches on AOE a little longer than usual until he got aggro well and allowed us to sort of guide him through the place.
It's a humble way of saying, "keep your expectations low." and..."I expect to die a lot"
It makes the run less frustrating for everyone instead of screwing up and being defensive about it (and thereby making it worse.)
Can't say it better than this. I'll even specify I don't remember mechanics if it's literally several years old stuff I've only ran once (because why would I ever run Neverreap more than once)
Uh ? Well, because I'm pretty conscious that some people might have already done this particular instance several times, and that they need to know I'm potentially less "on page" ?
I know that, when I'm playing healer, I appreciate when people have the honesty to tell "New on this one" (aka : I'm going to die). It allows me to be a little more focused on them, and potentially prepared to stress heal / use rescue.
Wouldn't you like people to be honest that they're new to it?
I don't mind if they're new at all, and would be happy to teach them things about their class and/or the instance if they liked.

Come on SE, more dyeable mogstore npc outfits and 60/70 alliance raid gear. Do them all.
Because some people have brainrot in this community and freak out if on day 2 everyone's not handling things perfectly in a dungeon that just came out. I saw people saying "first time" after the new trial had been out for 12 hours. Wish I were joking.
This is exactly what I meant! I think many in the thread have assumed I meant old content but I already understand why people say "first time" in older content and I don't mind it at all, I welcome it. That and I think some thought I didn't even know what "first time" meant which is wrong. What the OP means is in fact that when a content is brand new, we should expect people to be first timer by courtesy and not the reverse, so first timer shouldn't have to said they are cause since the content is new, they are SUPPOSED to be first timer.
Old content, it's courtesy to tell you are doing it for the first time.
New content, it's courtesy to expect people are doing it for the first time and not telling anything about the fight before wipe...
Perhaps I should have prefaced this thread by saying I have ASD, as some seem to have gotten angry and insulted me because I don't understand why people do this particular thing when new content drops. Is it wrong to want to understand people?
In the end I have gained insight on why some do it, and it's very saddening that people are so worried that the nutjobs in this game are going to give them hell over freshly released content...
I'm sorry that you were attacked for asking this question but also understand that the reason a lot of people still feel like saying "first time" in new content is also due to everyone not playing immediately it gets released. There will be people whom already blazed through it and do multiple runs for gear or whatever so you will or SHOULD expect people to be new despite that yes the content is fresh as a common courtesy. People's schedules are all over the place, not everyone is going to be doing 6.2 in the same day or heck even the same week. This is exactly what I meant! I say it since i will know others will be aware of my mistakes and be willing to compensate/explain them if required. In most cases its not an issue and people will just say 'have fun'. I warn them because i know that some dungeons have excessive punishment mechanics in them, and by stating this, i will make them aware. If such mechanics exist that require a bit more, they can tell me ahead (or not tell and accept a single loss to see how well a player can adapt). But most important, it makes them also more relaxed about it (since in the end, watching someone struggle can be a fun reminder of yourself and how far you got).
The problem is partialy also that some people just blatantly lie about it (i guess they want to get extra commendations by acting like they are adapting realy well), and that some people are excessively quick at deciding when to vote for a kick.
