What the OP means is in fact that when a content is brand new, we should expect people to be first timer by courtesy and not the reverse, so first timer shouldn't have to said they are cause since the content is new, they are SUPPOSED to be first timer.

Old content, it's courtesy to tell you are doing it for the first time.

New content, it's courtesy to expect people are doing it for the first time and not telling anything about the fight before wipe...

This might be true on patch day but after a few days, plenty of players expect people to know the mechanics. Saying you're new isn't hurting anyone, rather let everyone know you are new.

Actually, not everybody can play on patch day, so it should be true for two weeks max and after we can return to the old content things. But yeah, players souldn't expect people to know mechs before that time not everybody have the time to do all content first week... So if we're speaking of courtesy, the courtesy right now is to let people unlock the content at their pace on the first two weeks and not expecting them to know every mechs before...

Actually, I found it annoying that people feels that they have to tells their new on brand new content... To the point some people are telling it on patch day now...

I agree but after playing this game for almost 10 years, it's not the reality. I haven't even started on the new MSQ yet let alone the new raid tier and the trial and dungeon that MSQ brought, and it's been a week.

Normal mode content like dungeons, trials and raids are designed to be beaten by people who have never seen them before. So while it's not reasonable to expect people to know what's going on beforehand, it should be reasonable to expect people to pay attention to what the boss does. If you get hit by the same attack like 10 times in a single fight the problem doesnt come from you being there the first time, the problem comes from you not paying attention to the game at all.

eh, I'd always say I'm new if I'm new.
No matter how old/new the content is

This is exactly what I meant! I think many in the thread have assumed I meant old content but I already understand why people say "first time" in older content and I don't mind it at all, I welcome it. That and I think some thought I didn't even know what "first time" meant which is wrong.

Perhaps I should have prefaced this thread by saying I have ASD, as some seem to have gotten angry and insulted me because I don't understand why people do this particular thing when new content drops. Is it wrong to want to understand people?

In the end I have gained insight on why some do it, and it's very saddening that people are so worried that the nutjobs in this game are going to give them hell over freshly released content...

I say it since i will know others will be aware of my mistakes and be willing to compensate/explain them if required. In most cases its not an issue and people will just say 'have fun'. I warn them because i know that some dungeons have excessive punishment mechanics in them, and by stating this, i will make them aware. If such mechanics exist that require a bit more, they can tell me ahead (or not tell and accept a single loss to see how well a player can adapt). But most important, it makes them also more relaxed about it (since in the end, watching someone struggle can be a fun reminder of yourself and how far you got).

The problem is partialy also that some people just blatantly lie about it (i guess they want to get extra commendations by acting like they are adapting realy well), and that some people are excessively quick at deciding when to vote for a kick.
