What's the point with that quite lackluster story in Endwalker?

I just don't understand how Venat is viewed as a motherly figure by part of the playerbase. I'm not sure how that logic works. Her actions weren't really the sort of things I would associate with a benevolent goddess. Knew everything beforehand, yet acted sneaky and didn't try to avoid the worst outcome which ended up happening anyway. I have yet to come across a decent explanation.

It's always strange to me when people point to something as niche as FFXIV as an example as what qualifies as 'good taste'. That aside, personally if people don't like what I like I just shrug in indifference.

Venat is an antagonist, she's just not treated as one.

I'm not claiming she's malicious and evil either since I know that's coming next.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here or if you have the meanings of words mixed up.

The definition of an antagonist is the foe of the protagonist. It has nothing to do with morality. Hydaelyn is not opposed to the WoL or the other way around. You can have an evil protagonist but a heroic antagonist. There's plenty of video game examples out there like that.

The Ancients are not the protagonist of the game. She was certainly a foe to them, but we are not them, and our lives as well as all of those in the remaining unjoined worlds depended on defeating the Ascians. Worlds that, as corny as is is to say, were treated with unconditional love by Hydaelyn. Her motivations as written in the EW MSQ may be stupid as hell and the writers introduced a bunch of nonsense where there didn't need to be any, seemingly just to make everything fit the song Answers, but it doesn't make her an antagonist since she has never done anything but help our character defeat our foes and the game never treats her as one.

It's a shame too because having the WoL be more on the side of the Ancients would've probably made for a better story, where Venat could've worked as an antagonist. Either way she's evil, no matter how pretty the game and outside media dresses her up.

Good taste is Radiant Historia. Bad taste is Sands of Destruction. As long as you agree the former is good and the latter is *projectile vomits*, you have good taste.

Less about taste, it's about someone coming into a thread that has 684 pages and latching onto the OP and then presenting ideas IN ALL CAPS as facts when these same "facts" have been ripped to shreds over the course of said 684 pages.

We get it, you were REALLY into whatever Y'shtola told you the story was about.

The antagonist isn't always centered around the protagonist*, but regardless I'll concede the definition that's more appropriate for Venat is an anti-villain. However, I'm not sure how many people are familiar with that term as opposed to antagonist which is the main reason I use it.

* I also think it's dicey in this case when the protagonist exists as a result of her destroying their original self and grooming their reincarnation to be her champion. The WoL is less a protagonist than a tool.

I'm not going to debate her 'love' because if this is how she treats people she loves I'd be scared to see how she treats those she hates.
