I mean why else would Yoshida tell the player base to go take breaks from the game and to go play other games and come back when you want to? I know you're most likely being sarcastic, but so am I to an extent.
Excuses for being lazy and stay in the comfort zone where you as a dev can tell people to stop play the game and comeback every 3-4 months, but hey if you have a house the discourse changes. Genshin as a example I had 4 events stacked (fully voiced, new mechanics, new maps to explore, new dungeons, new trails etc even if the mobs are reused) and 2 days ago a web designed event full of rewards and with pretty art style.
What we have here? nothing besides talk to NPC Y - >Z get your swimsuit (once again appealing to RP community) and see you later next year with the same stuff or in 3-4 months later with the same "event" from the last decade.
Are you seriously insinuating Naoki Yoshida is lazy? You should use your skull before you type. That is one of the most absurd things I have read this year.Excuses for being lazy and stay in the comfort zone where you as a dev can tell people to stop play the game and comeback every 3-4 months, but hey if you have a house the discourse changes. I would not say the dev team is lazy. But, I would say that they are inefficient. After all, Japanese companies are known to value looking busy over actually being productive.
Oh I know right!!!? The only content this game has gotten in the past year was a reskinned Faire, I mean we got nothing else amirite? They also certainly have no content due in under a week either!! What are they doing!?!?!?!Excuses for being lazy and stay in the comfort zone where you as a dev can tell people to stop play the game and comeback every 3-4 months, but hey if you have a house the discourse changes. Because it reduces the pressure to create content with long term value. If you find yourself bored a few weeks into a patch because most of the content is done week one, it's your fault, you were supposed to go find another game to get your sub value from and the devs care about you.
Meanwhile players are unlikely to unsub entirely because weekly static raids and housing demolishment keep them around.
Quite clever really.
Maybe not the company but it's been clear that Yoshida has that mindset, I mean the guy urged people to take breaks and play other games and come back when there is new content.
Then it's good it's optional eh?

Obviously they want to make money and keep their playerbase cause well that gives money. I think nobody here is really that delusional that SE just makes games out of the goodness of their hearts.
But seriously FFXIV has their monetization and game mechanics actually balanced unlike some other games <cough> WoW <cough>. If you take a break and login after half a year you can go right back into action easily with crafted gear etc., in WoW you would need to farm for decades until you reach the almost same powerlevel as the top raiders. There has to be a reward for playing frequently and well dragging the gear people get a bit out over the months, which is actually good cause that way raidgroups are less toxic when the raider hasn't full tomestone gear by week two cause there is no cap and well it is way more healthy for the player. Sure there could be some good changes, especially just getting rid of the poetics cap cause that one makes almost no sense at all.
But it is fair to say that Yoshi P. does have the fun of the players at heart and he calls most of the shots when it comes to XIV cause heck SE knows that he knows better than them, same reason why they put him in charge of XVI. So yeah, obviously there has to be mechanics that bind the player to the game a bit, that is what MMOs are about are they not? But i never had the feeling XIV gets too exzessive with it.
