You know this, I know this, and I'm sure SE knows this very well, otherwise they wouldn't have to entice more people to purchase these items by slapping the best emotes in the game on top of them.
Okay so Most People: "yeah I paid 250 bucks for this sweet animation for my video game character to do. It came with some statue I guess" Said it before and I'll say it again, that's bass-ackwards logic right there.
SE: "People won't buy our limited run goods quick attach a code for a looped idle animation, the statues are worthless otherwise" Seriously?

That's just a path of logic I don't understand, how something not real can be considered more valuable than something that is. Maybe I'm getting old.

Not having the money at the time to buy a physical good is something we all run up against, and yes it part of life. The haves versus the have nots. But to apply this to fake digital items is how we get into NFTs and similar garbage. Forced scarcity of digital goods is beyond stupid and how could someone defend it in good faith without it being really a "no don't share my shinies with other people".

It was a gimmick, and it worked unfortunately. I also wanted the emote. But I refused to pay $250.00. Do I find it annoying? Yes. But I had to suck it up. The best they could do at this point is to make more statues with the code and sell it as it doesn't make sense to sell just the code alone for $250.00 because that's the only way it wouldn't cause outrage. If the code wasn't the same price as it initially was buyers wouldn't be happy. They paid money for the exclusivity and unfortunately exclusivity means some people will be excluded.

Okay but I definitely disagree (hopium perhaps) that the majority of purchasers of exclusive limited run statues only spent the money for a digital bonus. SE's figurines sell out all the time without any attached bonuses so unless XIV's playerbase is very "unique" (again hopium) I can't see releasing years-old digital items as a detriment to them financially. Why would they sell a code alone for 250.00, the statue was the item with an MSRP. The code cost virtually nothing to produce and the cost of labor creating the item or emote is paid for probably by 5 statues at worst. I feel like something is twisted here that people are thinking the emote was the point of the sale instead of the physical item that exists in real space and can even be resold.

I know about 15 ppl at most with the statue. 4 in my old fc. All 4 of them told me the only reason they wanted it was for the emote and they either resold or gave away the statue and kept the code. I even heard some of the statues were poorly made and the faces looked horrible (think it was the omega statue this happen too and I'm pretty sure theres a video about it on youtube). Its an age old tactic with some companies. Attach something cool and flashy that people can use to show off and the main point of the sale will sometimes get overshadowed by it. I do think that these items should never become unavailable though. The statues should keep being produced.

I would love to be able to buy the Shiva emote on the store.

That's how the world works unfortunately. People with more money will always have nicer things and there's nothing we can do about it. Exclusives are exclusive for a reason no matter how limitless and reproducible the item is.
People really need to stop unironically parroting this meme. While I have no doubt some bought the statue purely for the emote. The overwhelming majority actually wanted the statue itself and saw the emote as what it was: a bonus.

From an entirely business perspective, they could toss those emotes on the Mogstation right now for something absurd like $25 and make a larger profit than they did on the statues once you account for production costs and whatnot. After all, significantly more people will be willing to pay $25 for an emote than $250 for a statue. So no, they wouldn't lose money whatsoever.

As someone who has several exclusive emotes and minions. Put them on the Mogstation for all I care. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest because I wanted the physical items I purchased. I'm likely looking to order the Tifa and Aerith statues coming out in October. Neither come with any perks. I just think they look nice.

I have all the statues and I actually bought them because of the statues themselves, with the emotes being a bonus. In my opinion they really just need to reprint the things. I was lucky enough to get Shiva and Odin in a reprint a few years back, but I haven't seen them reprint them again. I know quite a few people that really want the Shiva statue and emote but you actually can't even buy it. I know it's the nature of these kinds of statues as I collect statues from other series too, but really sucks for people that missed out. With how the game has exploded recently they should at the very least reprint Odin+Shiva for new players that missed out. I doubt they'll reprint Omega M&F after all the quality control issues they had with it though.

Sorry, I hadn't heard the devs about this (why I posted it). Could you point me to any statements they've made about it?

As far as I can tell I don't think this is true. I've purchased quite a few statues from other SE games and the statues are always sold out and after some time always hard to get. If they offered the emotes on the store at the same time as the statue and made the emotes $1 each, they would still sell out of the statues. They always do.

I know people meme that they bought a $250 emote and it came with a free statue, and I'm sure that's the case for some people, but there are HUGE collectors out there that legit do buy the statues for them. I know I would buy them if I could, even without the emote.

If the merch can't stand on it's own, don't sell it.
