I honestly have been running into this same problem with a few individuals too. People keep picking something I said, rather than focusing on the main points I share to further the discussion

People are focusing on what you're saying. You can't say 4 different things, give each point equal weight, and then retroactively label one of them as the 'main point' that deserves all of the attention, and that everyone else must ignore everything else you said. If you're making a bunch of points you don't want people to respond to, don't make said points and people won't respond to them.
