Even I have to say that while carrying 60 pieces of gear for any given job in XI was always super fun, and my spellcast scripts became ungainly due to the sheer number of skills that I gear swapped for, or that whole "Ok just gotta change jobs rq then." ... 90mins and 3 trips to mules later, "Ok let's go get this done ... crap I don't know if I'm gonna have time for it now I gotta go to work in 30 mins." ...
Really people want that back?
Course the realism argument, "Hang on I just gotta change these pants before I hit you with a left hook, just take a minute for me to get my left hook acc+ pants out of my bag." C'mon ...
Yeah I played FFXI from 2004~2012 and I really did have 20 jobs to 99 between 2 accts, and had 2 mules per acct to hold gear for the chars I played, all my inventory slots maxed and still all too often found myself droping crap on the ground, Empy Seals = Flooredx3234 Empy+2 items = Floored ~100 such a waste, all so that I could be in the best possible gear set for every situation.
... I lost track of my rant about poor gear design, and why swapping is silly. I am still a "numbers" player though. I'll always want to put together the best gear set for my role, but switching midswing just doesn't make sense. 2~3 sets per job is a reach but I can see it for that whole, "I'm a war but gonna be sub-tanking so I want some more def for these fights." and things of that nature just not in active mode (means all you mages can still swap before spells as long as you don't pull your weapon, and what mage does that? well since they patched it from having to).
One last bit, if you played XI in the old days, skill was shown by know how your class worked, not how much gear you could swap in thru macros.
/equip "Flame Ring"
/equip "Fire Staff"
/equip "beh"
/ma "Firaga III"
does not show skill, landing that "Firaga III" after a 3 part Light Skillchain shows skill, having a pt that can actually work together well enough to get a 3 part Light Skillchain while a BLM slides his cast in to land on time is skill, button mashing/scripting/solo-skillchains/botting are not skill, tho if you write your own scripts/bots/scripting-engines to do those things for you it does take a brand of skill, but not the kind that shows your good at your chosen job. Getting to the level cap, hitting attk/def caps are not skill but just simple math/grinding.
If gear swapping is what you believe makes you good your really not.
Remember I said I had some hellish spellcast gearswaps, my nin was ~700 lines of blinking hell for anyone that thought they'd try to target me for casting, but I also knew every facet of my jobs, how/when to use what, and how to best work w/ other "skilled" players to maximize our effectiveness.
While gear always will play a role, swapping it doesn't show that your skilled, just that you can write a macro and had time to get gear to fill up said macro.
Learn to play your job, not how to get gear to make it look like you know what your doing. ^^

Okay, what I don't understand is this:
1- Having a choice means having no choice *hmm, strange, we fall under peer pressure*
2- Changing gear is bad because it's complex *because all who play don't want complexity, refer to 1*
3- Different gear means no ultimate gear *that's bad because we want all to look the same, I hate that btw. I actually liked different gear for each occasion or situation; however, may be instead of carrying all the gear, there should be a bestiary NPC which can tell you what to prepare for, for a fee of course*
4- Having the ability to change weapon of the same family should be added, so we can build TP with one, then do certain DMG with the other, or a weapon can support a certain COMBO.
1- It's not so much peer pressure as simply not getting invites/being kicked because you don't gear swapOkay, what I don't understand is this:

2- Complexity is great, implement it in team tactics not in what you wear
3- I can't argue this, it's kinda bleh when 300 people are wearing the exact same thing in the exact same place
4- Really? in what world do you just set down that 8' spear and pull that other one out of your "magic pack of holding" then hit the monster, then put down that "combo spear", pick up the "tp spear", and so on and so forth.?
I have trouble taking off my pants when something is kicking me in the face ...

That's BS, there are so many parties who just want to have fun, and FFXIV allows for all layers of fun.1- It's not so much peer pressure as simply not getting invites/being kicked because you don't gear swap
Team tactics I agree with, but gear change is essential. Plus, many warriors use to wear many levels of armour, or even change shields, changing clothes is just the extension of logic into fantasy.2- Complexity is great, implement it in team tactics not in what you wear
In anime it happens all the time, so your argument is null, and we're playing it for the thrill factor, Man I even question gravity in the game, because it is fantasy, the point is to enjoy the fantasy aspect. Making it close to real would make anything in the game moot. Relating the game to realism is fine, but parallel argument fails. FF world has girls changing costumes mid battle, so your argument is moot again.4- Really? in what world do you just set down that 8' spear and pull that other one out of your "magic pack of holding" then hit the monster, then put down that "combo spear", pick up the "tp spear", and so on and so forth.?
good thing devs already confirmed there will be no gear swapping in ff14 that way people wont make a million threads about it, oh, wait....
Dev's are not the deciders, YoshiP and the players are, if enough ppl are requesting it. We pay then we say. FF14 became a client service not like WoW, which is why I enjoy FF14, because the players get some input, never played WoW and never will.devs already confirmed there will be no gear swapping in ff14
