There's a lot of discussion about the 99 totem requirement, but that trade doesn't even exist until the content is outdated, the drop-rate is buffed, we outgear it and there's Echo added. In this case, the majority of the time it'll drop before 99 kills anyway.

As current content, you can potentially go 200-300 kills before getting a mount. We're on our third EX trial and there is no totem trade. It's backwards. Why am I discouraged from farming current content?
