If I was mopping the damn floor and some random person thanked me... It would feel condescending... I'd be offended and want to punch you

You: "Thank you for cleaning the shit off of this toilet, you provide a valuable service"
Me as a janitor: "Thank you for shutting the hell up"

when did the world become so pretentious and douchey?

Cool stuff. You're actually the asshole they talk about when they get home. Some of us have had to work hard from top-to-bottom and can appreciate the experiences we've had. I'm actually going to hope that you never have to experience this - instead, maybe your children and spouse. Maybe your parents can end up in an assisted living facility and the unappreciated nurses can do a horrible job, increasing their pain and suffering. It seems like the idea of common courtesy and compassion is lost on you so here's to hoping you can learn these lessons by watching the people you care about suffer. After all - this is the kind of world you want ^^ /cheers!
