If you thank all of these random people, you're a tool

If I was mopping the damn floor and some random person thanked me... It would feel condescending... I'd be offended and want to punch you

You: "Thank you for cleaning the shit off of this toilet, you provide a valuable service"
Me as a janitor: "Thank you for shutting the hell up"

when did the world become so pretentious and douchey?

Cool stuff. You're actually the asshole they talk about when they get home. Some of us have had to work hard from top-to-bottom and can appreciate the experiences we've had. I'm actually going to hope that you never have to experience this - instead, maybe your children and spouse. Maybe your parents can end up in an assisted living facility and the unappreciated nurses can do a horrible job, increasing their pain and suffering. It seems like the idea of common courtesy and compassion is lost on you so here's to hoping you can learn these lessons by watching the people you care about suffer. After all - this is the kind of world you want ^^ /cheers!

Pearls before Swine, my friend. So sad but true.

To the ass**** who thinks paying = thanking, let me ask you this: have you ever tipped a waiter or waitress at a restaurant or barista at a coffeeshop? Why?

no that person they talk about would be you. we both know he's right. it's polite to say thank you to your waitress for a good service. it will be taken rude to say the same thing to the janitor. it may not be meant that way, but that's exactly how it would be taken.

you would be the guy the janitor gets home and tells his wife he got fired because he beat someone half to death with his mop because they were trying to be funny and mock his job.

no, you go learn. go to somewhere you don't work and don't know your janitor. go find some random guy that just got finished cleaning out the toilet and tell him he did a good job cleaning it. it's not meant to be rude at all, but if you don't know him and he doesn't know you it will be taken rude more often than not.

the best way to tell a waitress she did a good job is by giving her your money in a good tip. the best way to tell game developers they did a good job is to give your money to them in buying the game and monthly subs.

i do construction for a living. we get told all the time we do a good job, but do you know the first thing that usually gets said afterwards? "the best thing to do to show me thanks is helping my pocketbook"

Why should you treat the waitress any different than a game developer? Why does a waitress deserve an hourly wage + tip but a game developer only an hourly wage? I know some waiters and waitresses that earn a better living than game developers.

What about the bellboy at the counter who just carried in your luggage? Why does he deserve a tip ontop of his hourly wage? Doesn't he get paid by the hotel owner to do that? Afterall it is his job, so why should you bother tipping him or even looking at him?

Your lame argument about the janitor who hates his life and his job so much that he would punch someone in the face for thanking them is just that: a stupid stereotype. It's like the guy who told his wife on the night they go out to dinner "you look great tonight" and she responds angrily "are you saying i don't look great otherwise?".

You attempt to make it seem that Janitors naturally loath their jobs and hate anyone and everyone who dares compliment them, but I doubt you have known a fraction of the janitors in the world yet you are content making gross generalizations on their behalf.

And so what if you work in construction? Are you attempting to be witty with your comment about helping out your pocketbook? I get it, you need money to live, but who doesn't? Every one in this god forsaken world needs money just as much as you do, but that doesn't give you the right to reject someones verbal acknowledgement of you.

Maybe next time your wife or girlfriend thanks you for doing something you should tell her that she could thank you by doing it herself next time, and see how far that gets you in life, JOE.

Because their minimum wage (at least in u.s.) is less. The government expects citizens to tip and calculates that into determining waitress's min wage.

were i live its 7.25 and waitress get 2.83 an hour

Have any of you heard of the tradition of leaving a Case of beer out for the trash collectors on Christmas day/eve?
that's so they take the big stuff they shouldn't or take bags not in trash cans and stuff like that. If you are not giving the trash men stuff you shouldn't then theres no reason to give them anything. When you put out a can with 200 pounds of bricks in it they can take it or leave it.

I thank anyone regardless but comparing being a waitress to this? How are we meant to tip the developers? When they come to give us the bill? Also I doubt waitresses are getting paid as much as SE dev employees and usually they get tips because the wages themselves are terrible.

this is because the industry is bullcrap and they over work them and pay them crap compared to how much time they put into there jobs. waiters only make 1-2bucks an hour by wage by way. how much does yoshi? i'm sure the devs know what we want in a mmo and know what yoshi and the people up top try to give us instead. if a waitress took forever to get us our food, kept bringing us the wrong food, smelled bad (lol), or everytime they went to rewarm my undercooked steak they removed some of the side dishes i wanted? i would of left without paying at all let alone tip her. (i know i was a waiter this happens when you suck and should be no different to multipmillion dollar companies)

What about the bellboy at the counter who just carried in your luggage? Why does he deserve a tip ontop of his hourly wage? Doesn't he get paid by the hotel owner to do that? Afterall it is his job, so why should you bother tipping him or even looking at him?

tell yoshi to grab my luggage and i'll tip him. i bet half the people playing mmo's have not left there state or country in years or ever. and when ffxiv is on the full launch yoshi and pals will be living it up, that is there reward. a company has no face no matter how much our government wants to claim companies are people too, (not like they are a company themselves)

Your lame argument about the janitor who hates his life and his job so much that he would punch someone in the face for thanking them is just that: a stupid stereotype. it's just an example they used no? it's simply stating what everyone is arguing in this thread about. yoshi don't need a thank you, they need to thank us. they are just cleaning up there own mess and still making a living cause people still supported them in the time of screw ups. (and lets not get it wrong they launched knowing it was garbage and who cares who takes the face of the company, he was payed very well to be that face)

You attempt to make it seem that Janitors naturally loath their jobs and hate anyone and everyone who dares compliment them, but I doubt you have known a fraction of the janitors in the world yet you are content making gross generalizations on their behalf.

janitors don't get tiped either for there jobs, again i think they were just making a point with it, it has nothing to do with janitors really other then that. but as you can see lots are on both sides of the coin in this thread and that is the point they were trying to make not that janitors are angry.

And so what if you work in construction? Are you attempting to be witty with your comment about helping out your pocketbook? I get it, you need money to live, but who doesn't? Every one in this god forsaken world needs money just as much as you do, but that doesn't give you the right to reject someones verbal acknowledgement of you.

i say it does give the right, when people need money in this world and you say who doesn't? well yoshi doesn't ..should we thank him for that? the game is getting better after 2years time and now money invested. they don't truely need more then that. they should know and do know when there players are happy when they are there playing. the game is empty, they are not happy. they don't thank him. i personally thank all the hardworkers there but in the end it's not like they are putting down there computers and saying screw this i not working for such crappy thank you's. they probably have mods that give them the important stuff and not even read this stuff, hmmm a bj from a 2000 a nite hooker or umm read 100page thread of thanks. ...anyway. and the real deves go home home if they have time to, to there families i'm sure. they don't need your thanks they need a job that doesn't pay them crap or make them work 100hrs a week.

Maybe next time your wife or girlfriend thanks you for doing something you should tell her that she could thank you by doing it herself next time, and see how far that gets you in life, JOE.
when you do stuff for your wife you get gratification in other ways, you probably feel more like a man or might get her off your back, or get "favors" . see you can just argue what you use to get your point across or just argue what your trying to put across. if your saying yoshi and the devs should stop making our games, the devs in his own company will give him thanks cause now they can finally make a mmo they wanted for there people and not be worry'ing about the people up top forcing the way the games go. also just like anything else theres always someone that will take there place right? i hear devs are straight out of 2year training monkeys now that easily replaced. if you want to argue anything then we should thank people who don't go in and replace people that quit so things change in this world so thanks might actually start to mean something again.

and yeah i guess thanks to the devs, while i'm at it for there parents for busting there humps to raise them. maybe one day instead of a meaningless thank you's we can all stop the bs happening in corrupt corporations.
