Slide 9 lists the net sales for all MMOs that SE handles (FFXI, FFXIV, Dragon Quest X) as 62.2 billion yen (459,844,600 US Dollar at today's exchange rate) (source: type "62.2 billion yen convert to usd" in Bing search engine)

Their 'smart devices/PC Browser' division makes more than double that amount, so, yeah, FFXIV makes a bit of money, but not nearly as much as mobile games.

Their 'arcade' division (yes, SE has video game arcades in Japan) made about 70% of the MMO division.

Square Enix is a Japanese company run by folks whose first language is Japanese. The Live Letters are first-and-foremost for the home audience, as can be inferred from the nearly 3 hour session that could easily fit into a 30 minute, relatively boring, PowerPoint presentation in any American Corporation. An appropriate translation of the presentation during each Live Letter is posted to these forums containing the relevant information.

oh, I wasnt expecting one to be honest, people just love to throw that kind of thing around without anything to back it up.

yes, the Digital Entertainment area does okay for SE, not quite printing their own money, but does well in terms of income, but hardly "billions". the original poster seems to believe SE only does FFXIV and all the money they make goes back into this one area. it doesnt, they get a budget. they dont have access to every cent of profit SE makes. wish people understood how the world worked, they would complain less about stupid things and worry about things that matter instead of spreading falsehoods.

They're well aware of the Glam issues they're not just adding extra and not more out of spite or anything.



It's also just a blunt translation from Japanese.
It's rly sad that they apparently have to walk on egg shells constantly because someone will take a harmless comment and get mad about it.
Yoshida isn't mocking people and being an asshole he's just trying to be light-hearted and joke a bit.

If you haven't figured it out yet, Yoshi P is a buisness man who understands very well that he needs to keep his leigon of consumerist simps in line, which is why he says things like that.

He's successfully managed to make common opinion of this game that it ISNT backed by Square Enix and is a small indie dev, which is quite impressive honestly.

It doesn't matter tho cause translations can't translate how something is meant in a completely different culture. You can translate everything word by word but cultural differences you literally can't translate.

IMHO it should simply be an archive of all the equipment that we've had bound to us over the years
