Slide 9 lists the net sales for all MMOs that SE handles (FFXI, FFXIV, Dragon Quest X) as 62.2 billion yen (459,844,600 US Dollar at today's exchange rate) (source: type "62.2 billion yen convert to usd" in Bing search engine)
Their 'smart devices/PC Browser' division makes more than double that amount, so, yeah, FFXIV makes a bit of money, but not nearly as much as mobile games.
Their 'arcade' division (yes, SE has video game arcades in Japan) made about 70% of the MMO division.
Square Enix is a Japanese company run by folks whose first language is Japanese. The Live Letters are first-and-foremost for the home audience, as can be inferred from the nearly 3 hour session that could easily fit into a 30 minute, relatively boring, PowerPoint presentation in any American Corporation. An appropriate translation of the presentation during each Live Letter is posted to these forums containing the
relevant information.
