Sigh, 'nother bandaid fix for the cursed dresser.

Reminder that the data needed for the dresser is way more than the data needed for a proper glamour log.

There are over 10k pieces of armor, each which can be stored as a bit... Or seeing as most comes of sets of 5 (head, chest, glove, legs, boots) and tiers (ivalice of fending/maiming...) you can compress most of that number down to 2000/1500-300 bits.

Meanwhile one slot in the glamour dresser needs at least 16 bits due to remembering the item id. With 800 slots puts us now at... 12800 bits...

And the work to put in that "proper glamour log" is an indeterminate amount of reworks to core inventory systems and basic item tracking.

So while we can acknowledge the system isn't and will never be "enough" for everyone, can we also acknowledge they are doing what they can without requiring a fundamental rework of the game?

They don't need fundamental rework of the game. They have already implemented various methods of generating and retrieving items such as through achievements, salvager and item coffers containing multiple pieces of equipment. There are even achievements when you present items to get said achievement, all the way back form ARR.

All of which work off achievements or one time transactions which do not track any customization of items, just present or not. The issue is that right now the only way to make what you're asking for (such as GW2's or WoWs log) , is a rework of how glamours function. Right now they are data on top of data and as they are considered inventory are likely subject to the weird constant verification of items we have going.

To remove this restriction requires changing the way the game looks at glamours altogether. It's not impossible, it's just tearing down a system that has been around since incredibly early game which will likely break countless other systems.

If you make a glamour log keep track of "customization" you have already failed at it's intended purpose. It should know nothing other than if you have something unlocked or not which is what achievements/minion log/triple triad cards already do. And if a glamour need a "physical" version of it to be able to apply then they could implement "invisible/inaccessible" inventory slots that will temporary hold items you use for glamouring and delete/replace those whenever you swap out a glamour.

That's great but it seems you're thinking of what they COULD have done and not what they did. The system is in place and absolutely tied to the inventory and item servers. That needs to be removed for what you want to happen. You've got my intention wrong if you think I'm defending the corner they've backed themselves into. I've long been an advocate of simply reworking the system but I'm also aware that :
    1. They will not be allowed the budget and consideration by their uppers to continue doing this AND developing the rest of the game, especially since this makes work exponentially larger as the new things they make while reworking the old system need to work and be created to work with BOTH systems.

    2. The players are largely unwilling to weather the content drought that will occur while they "fix" the problem.

So things being what they are I can appreciate and be impressed what they're constantly trying to wring out of the system WITHOUT the rework.
