Following some advice I saw in other threads about DX11, I underclocked my GPU by 100MHz for the core and the memory by 500MHz. I also lowered the power draw to 90%. My GPU was never overclocked in the first place as an fyi. I was playing fine today for about 4 hours without the black screen. Its still too early to tell as I've seen it appear very shortly after logging on or after many hours of gameplay in one day.

If after a few days it stays stable, I would still like to point to FF14 as other games running at stock speed did not have this issue. But again, too early to tell.

Hey, if the game runs stable now, you could try the opposite: increase the minimum clock frequency of your hardware. This will also soften the energy consumption fluctuations and you will not lose performance.

And here is a nice article about energy consumption spikes of modern hardware:

    Many people vastly underestimate it.

It's been 10 days since I underclocked my GPU. I have not had the black screen ever since. Ultimately, I only have to do this with FF14. So something is wrong with FF14, but who knows what it is. In any case my problem is technically solved. For anyone else who is having similar problems perhaps underclocking will solve it. Good luck

You are pandering such misinformation when FFXIV is full of random DX crashes and these startup bugs. I shouldn't have to restart my PC to be able to open the game consistently and it has absolute ZERO to do with PSU and clock speeds. They are just so far unrelated and your confidence is so high it's almost unbelievable how wrong your information is.

FFXIV I am bumping this so you fix your game, and because i had to interject to this person pandering their terrible opinion as fact, so passive aggressively. I hope a lot of this will be fixed with the new graphical engine but these issues have persisted for years. A quick search of the forums will show thousands of posts from years ago of DirectX crashes and startup freezes.

If it would be a general problem with the game then everybody would have problems, sorry.
