Hey. If you get a black screen and you have to reboot then it is an indicator that something is wrong with your hardware. Unfortunately the reasons for this can vary. It can be faulty memory, defect graphics card, CPU, too weak PSU, overheating etc.

Btw. try to play without the Sound BlasterX Katana-thingy. Maybe it helps.

    Cheers

Unfortunately less than 3 hours later I just got the random black screen again. So a fresh OS reinstall and a reinstall of FF14 did not fix the issue.

I have done a memtest with no errors, stress tested my CPU and it did not crash. My Seasonic 80+ Titanium 750w is (and has been) sufficient for these parts that have not changed. I play games that are more graphically demanding than FF14 and all is fine. All that has changed is...Endwalker came out along with the myriad of DX11 issues I see on the tech forurms. I have been monitoring my temperatures and all is fine. I even purposefully cranked up my case fans, CPU fans, and GPU fans to 100% just to see what happens and still I get the black screen. There is no rhyme or reason, the only commonality is FF14. Yeah it didn't happen on day 1 of EW, but its hard to say if I would have had those issues on day 1 or not due to queue issues. I went days without even bothering trying to play or could only play for a very short amount of time after waiting 3+ hours to get into the game.

The Sound BlasterX is just the audio driver for my soundbar. It's not any special software. The game has crashed using my soundbar and using my Corsair headset. I also have a Steel Series headset, but I have seen posts saying that people with Steel Series specifically have been having issues with the game crashing as well.

I'm not mad at you, its just frustrating because there is definitely something wrong with FF14 right now. Hopefully when the support team comes back I will hear from them to provide whatever is needed

If it would be a general FF14 problem then almost everybody would have it. And when i look at your hardware then your PSU could be too weak.

Earlier i was in this camp: sum up the power consumption of all components + 200 Watts. But with todays hardware it is not a good formula. Todays hardware has very aggressive energy saving mechanisms. Those mechanisms can produce very high and unpredictable energy spikes. If a PSU cannot handle them then the computer will crash. I know someone who got a computer stable with a 1100W PSU. With a 800W PSU the computer crashed sometimes.

How can someone be so wrong.... its sad...

The Error comes from FF14, the blackscreen of nowhere of FF14 is even well known, event for AMD and nvidia, and yes you can see its the fault of SQEX.
The blackscreen comes from a driver timeout, that reason for this is a misscommunication that reason is in the code of the Client of FF14, sadly its forbidden to Reverse Engineering the code of FF14 to get
the reason why... so dont blame the users blame SQEX for this 5 years old error...
