The very nature of the quicktime events like this make you click as fast as possible. When you do this you will automatically click much harder than you would normally click (because your finger simply presses further than it needs to each time and you're pressing it beyond the point it needs to be pressed).

Mouse click buttons are very basic, in most cases they're little pieces of metal bent over a button and it's supposed to spring back each time, but if pushed too hard they can and will stop working. Either they stay down for too long (don't snap back fast enough) or they don't make a good contact in the first place and your click doesn't always work.

Sure most people probably get away with it and it doesn't cause them problems, but even then it's going to be shortening the lifespan.
