I saw it at Fanfest and it was talked about for a hot minute. All we've ever had is the one image. Most of the hype has come from the players, so I take it all with a grain of salt. I'm sure we'll hear something substantial on the next LL.

He did a series of interviews too. That's when the speculation really started. He explicitly said you start with a "blank canvas", place things like buildings, decorate, invite friends over, etc.

Initially, the only thing he said expectation wise was not to expect "animal crossing" because that's a full blown game. Totally fair.

I dunno where the insistence comes from that players created most of the hype. I think players have run with what was said, but the stuff he said was pretty neat and clearly meant to create hype. It does sound similar to housing in how it was described, so I don't blame anyone.

You do that in Doman Restoration and the beast tribes too. Complete set weekly tasks to place a building down.

A developer "hyping " a feature would make much more of a presentation of it. Most likely a whole featurette of nothing but said feature . That would be a developer "hyping" a product/feature , with continued internal/external press pieces with it featured again especially when they have more finished components of said feature to reveal.

Which is exactly my point . A presentation with vague details in order for the players to fill in the blanks.

Its almost always player generating hype unless its large and regular scale media focused pieces with new reveals as the months pass and more is presentable and marketable. And despite that is falls to the advertised to (the customers) , that get "hyped" up with greater expectations as more news with details are presented.

EA were fast to spot how much self promoting power the consumer could wield if they believed they were in a discussion with other "gamers" on various game subreddits not knowing they were being manipulated by a branch of EA based out of an office in Guildford in the UK.
