Sanctuary Island - Housing Hope or Doman Enclave 2.0?

I think that the devs had only a rough concept of the place and intentionally announced it in such a way that will generate massive speculation.

They read our speculation, took the most popular wants and started building it after that with the words: more to come, allowing them to add the next popular requested items later.

That’s why it’s so deep into the expansion. They needed all this time to make what we are asking to the best of their abilities and within their server limitations.

Sometime between now and several expansions from now, this will become personal instanced housing.

Sorry, but the Devs are partially to blame for being so vague and secretive about it since revealing it as a major piece of the expansion.

Historically, it's better to say nothing and be as vague as possible. If you build up specific expectations and something changes, a lot of people lose their minds. "but you said..." "you promised!!"

Just look back at what happened with Endwalker's launch date. It was in the name of putting out a more stable product and Yoshi-P was very apologetic, but people were still nuts about it for a while.

At this point I expect nothing, and it likely won't be instanced housing.

Well I mean so far everything after 6.0 has been pretty disappointing, almost as if Squenix pulled the budget.

I think this is akin to what it would feel like as a tl;dr. Like to how Beast Tribe-like meet group content meets doma was Ishgard Restoration.

Perhaps Garrison (WoW)-like.. though I also imagine it might be Garrison-lite.. Just given how Yoshida has described it (Garrisons were kind of cool but they had a few major problems, like the ever demanding war table which actively pulled players out of the world space, gold inflation issues, and were relatively left alone to be whatever it was rather than being kept alive and updated to be relevant / improve the issues it had). To be honest it had a lot of neat features though, if you worked at it. Just some weird quirks too. WoW would do well, imo, to polish it up and then incorporate player housing into it- then it would be pretty awesome. You can build a home base, which may satisfy some people's home needs certainly (probably mine)... but there wasn't an actual house so it wouldn't satisfy the craving for everyone. Although in related news WoW had a long history of being like 'no player housing doesn't fit our game' and more recently was like 'player housing, we don't have the time / funds right now but maybe in the future' which is a huge change.

We can also keep in mind that FFXI has mog garden (island), to which many of the features of the Island Sanctuary have relationship to FFXI. So you might look at that for short and long term inspiration.

Besides looking at FFXI's islands there is a summarization of somethings we know from ffxivgardening.com:

• Player owned island which will receive regular updates
• Island begins as a blank canvas
• You can place buildings (wording used by translator was, "You can say like, 'Okay, what kind of building do I want to place here? What type of materials do I want to gather? Okay, maybe I want to let my minions run free.'")
• Tend to your animals and crops
• Expand the territory on your island
• Not a competition between players
• No pressured / timed content
• No high level weapons / gear
• This is an area to relax. Also explicitly stated that "you can call over your friends to your island and have a chat with them, you can go and visit your friend's island"
• There is "a focus on the house, the garden and the furniture, but you can see this as a bit of a rank higher, there's a bit more broad things in the mix"

They've mentioned the people who make the content either play or were inspired by games like Harvest Moon/ Animal Crossing / Stardew Valley, etc. (But also said don't expect a game that took 3+ years to make be made inside of another game, which was to say 'be reasonable' lol).
