I dunno about advantage, after all guys at least aren't having body parts removed. Some of the older gear gives my poor girls double mastectomies and more then a few of the newer ones give reductions, and before anyone gives a smart remark about "slider to max" only my fem Roe is, all others are low middle.

Does this hold true across cultures and different dress styles, or is it a quirk of our specific approach to clothing?

Well, I can speak only for myself, but imo it's not so much that clothes are specifically made for men/women (ok, they kinda are, but let's leave social and gender norms aside for the sake of the argument), it's that they're made for a silhouette that just happens to favor one sex over the other more often than not. Some men look good in womens clothing, but that's because they have the "appropriate" body shape to pull it off, doesn't mean that any guy can - and most certainly don't. The opposite is largely untrue because male outfits don't have any "highlights" to take into consideration and can be worn by just about anyone.

I guess, to put it shortly, it's easier to add an accent to a design - boobs, in this case - than it is to taking away what's supposed to be there.

so apparently the only option that doesn't "stress the newbies" is either pressing 1211111111, or do nothing at all.

Around 45% males/55% females according to LuckyBancho and FF14Census statistics, slightly varies. Which... isn't a big difference at all, honestly. To put it simply, in FF14 male characters are in fact popular, compared to many other MMO games where the distortion is often more noticeable (used to be worse in here too, but gradually shifted over the years).

Yep, which is why i’m concerned why they’re still continuing to place heavy bias in favor of female characters. At this point and after the whole yoshi p pvp blm ordeal, it really does seem like he’s just being biased because he plays a female character.

Every Male model sans Roe is just the F variant without boobs. So guys in this game will always look worse than girls because they have no distinct features or body types.

This Ken Doll Syndrome carries over to gear as well, most sets that aren't bulky just look awful on guys, whereas girls look good in bulky/revealing armor because their bodies have natural attractive curves/features that are prominent no matter what you put on.

It was an intentional design choice though, so I wouldn't expect it to change anytime soon. There's no point to catering to male characters in this game.

In my opionen the female sets often look more well designed. But what I mean today is..., that there is again new glam in the Mogshop and again it is just something new for the girls. Last time they gave us the Ryne set for girls. Now Lyse, and again, if you play a male character, there is nothing for you. Just can make a face like this, when looking in the shop ò.ó
    xD

Maybe it's just me. But I feel very often in disadvantage with a male character. How do you feel about this?
I feel like a lot of male people play female characters. So of course a lot of glamour is going to be focused on females.

When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.

Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
