    Yup. It works in a competitive system where you are trying to get the mob/drop first, but to their credit the 14 devs have created a very cooperative/collaborative game. Shame they don’t tune the open world stuff more to that, including hunts. It’d be easier to do if they just popped faster to encourage multiple smaller groups running around rather than 1 massive server hopping train.

    Yep, a lot more spontaneous, too. When I started playing, the call would go out across the server and we'd come from far and wide. Because Jenova was still fairly small and we only had our own people to rely on. But even as we got bigger, we would still do that. It wasn't until world visit that the train idea took over.

    I'd love it if the Hunt content encouraged smaller, spontaneous gathering rather than the massive trains. Plus now there is this concept of "bullet" trains that don't wait for half the people to zone in. I really enjoyed Hunts in the past but I don't really do them anymore because they're just not fun now like they were.

    Hunts are the same. If you see a mark out in the world there is literally nothing stopping you from gathering some friends and killing it. The reliance on trains only increases the reliance on trains.

    Another of these threads started by someone sitting around waiting for other ppl to report hunts then getting salty because an S rank got killed before they could hop worlds then teleport to the zone then run to the coordinates?

    These things are not world bosses that an entire server is supposed to work together to take down. They're essentially just the game's equivalent of FFXI's HNM's. The rare spawns that were strong enough to require a party/alliance to kill.

    As for the whole comparison to things like FFXI's Kirin. The part that seems to be forgotten is that to spawn Kirin you needed the 4 seals which were obtained by killing Suzaku, Genbu, Seiryu, Byakko which themselves were HNMs that required items from other NM's in the zone in order to spawn. Those NM's mostly respawned on their own timers. NA linkshells on that content often seemed to attempt to preemptively claim these NM's before they even spawned claiming that putting their name on some 3rd party fan site gave them ownership after I killed these things solo.

    IMO this whole giant hunt train thing ppl are doing now is more disruptive to hunts than helpful as some of these apparently end up larger than the zone population capacity and turn things into another version of trying to enter a zone for a superfate the first couple weeks after an expansion dropped.

    Ya are very wrong on that one, for S ranks, am quite active on multiple characters in active spawning them as well, if you think I am a salty nobody, who expect people to do stuff for me, think again, I am annoyed by that the same person again and again early pulls the mob I maneged to spawn, showing clear disrespect not only to me, but the community as a whole and SE is not wanting to do or take any measures against immature behaviour.

    Enough is enough.

    I started this thread, and I am not what you are saying or refering to either.

    Except that they aren't. XI HNMs had timed spawns while in this game you usually have to do some work to spawn S rank marks. Also, anyone can engage S rank marks unlike in XI where your team had to claim the HNM first to engage it.

    A better solution would be to take a zero off of all the S rank chievos, particularly for mounts. I bet that is the only reason 99% of hunters care about ANY S rank.

    The fact that u need literally thousands of S ranks is so out of touch with reality that u can probably win the lottery faster than complete such an achievement (especially for the new expansions).

    Hunts are designed to be contested right now and that's caused the community to overly rely on trains and even get actively hostile to those who don't hold to that standard. The devs could overhaul this content toward a more cooperative type of idea instead of being contested. I'm not sure entirely what form that would take. And it would need to be a better option than trains so those fall out of favor as the preferred way of doing Hunts.
