You assume the Ascians actually knew that was going on. They were a little preoccupied at the time.
The only Ascian influence on Alexander as it was going on was Travanchet supplying the treasure of Seal Rock, but I think that was more just general primal-summoning agitations; he knows there's potential for a primal there, he already knew they tried, he just has to stoke the flames. Chances are he didn't know time travel was going to happen at all, because the Illuminati were basically the only people involved who did know that was gonna happen!
Which, when you think about it... good job, Travanchet. The demise of the Ascians was basically his fault.
But yeah, totally just general primal shenanigans. Reuniting the very specific Macguffin at the very specific river location for Mide's very specific desire was just all coincidental.
