But I also have a question to all these who getting harassed so often.
How does the harassing player's know that you are LGBTQ+ or part of that community?
Why does a random player has so much informations about you that he can offend you on purpose.
Because some have to state their sexuality for no reason or other stuff they tend to overshare.
Literally no one cares. People just want people to play the game with.
You can be a talking dog for all I care, just play the game and be friendly.
    Your sexuality means absolute zero.

It's less about fear of direct harassment, and more about not wanting to participate in a community that may have people that are going to post hateful and hurtful things, even if they aren't targeted at anyone.

If you were Trans, would you want to inadvertently join an FC full of gamer dudes who constantly make jokes about trans people? Probably not.

Same mindset, and that's why I'm asking that question.

Also, from RL experience I would say that 90% of people who tell me their beliefs, religion, political positions, diet, whatever private matter, before even mentioning their name have a somewhat extremist view on that topic.

If I already know a person and some of these things come up in normal conversation, then I'm happy to learn a different point of view.
And I think/hope most people have that attitude.

    That fear is somewhat understandable.
But I think it is a double edged sword.
Because if you just stay in your own group of people and don't really interact with these maybe transphobic people, then they don't know that these kind of "jokes" actually hurt the feeling's of other's.

They will not know that LGBTQ+ people can just be as nice as everyone else.

People do overshare. I find it weird personally. I dont even talk about my issues to people I feel like I dont know very well but I see people just spewing everything in general chats, in say,fc or ls ingame,on discords or on twitch chat which makes it so awkward for myself at least.

As a fairly old japanese woman with a husband, joining Lgbt FCs has often been eye opening but also a bit annoying because there seems to be so many things today's generation take as offensive that I know nothing about. Someone once got offended and went off on someone else over a Pepe lizard guy thing apparently being offensive? Then also over someone feeling unsafe because another member liked MAGA and didn't use 'partner' instead of 'wife'. I mean, who can keep up with what's offensive to people, especially marginalized groups, these days? Better to just join a group where you don't have to walk on eggshells as long as you're a decent human being. Also keep in mind what's known or understood as offensive in one culture might not even be known of to another (like American culture vs. Japanese).

It's a good idea to avoid anything that advertises itself that way, it's bound to be full of snowflakes.

To be fair, it's not my responsibility to be the moral catalyst that makes someone self-reflect and not be a jackass. I'd rather just not be around said jackass.

No. No it absolutely is not.

Yes. Always. Because people who are part of historically marginalized communities do not have the privilege of being able to assume everyone values them.
Im late to the party here, but well said.

Yep, I just never knew some people think of the word 'wife' as being offensive to women because it is somehow making them less than men? Maybe it's an English language thing - just found it strange.
