I can't tell if Viera were fan-favourites though? ^^;; I've actually heard negative comments on Fran since 2007, only recently have I seen people be receptive to Viera.

I’m quite surprised, I haven’t heard of anything major, only people hating on Fran’s voice actress. Other than that, I think overall Viera race have been well received by the FF community, both in and out of XIV.

You're delusional. They're both humans with animal ears. Period. Just because they were requested doesn't change that fact.

And many others and myself would of preferred it if Viera had retained their animalistic features like in XII, but obviously digitigrade feet and the longer arms would’ve resulted in more complications with gear. So, if SE had to further humanise the Viera to bring the iconic race into XIV, why does that give you the right to compare them to a cat race? Lmao. Don’t be silly

...well... It was mostly because Fran, and by association all Viera, was seen as just "there for fanservice". A lot of people who hated on FF12 would point out how much Fran was just eyecandy, and that Square's focus on making them was less to make a mystical-looking race in a fantasy setting and more to appeal to people's gaze. As well as some comments that I don't quite know if I can be more explicit, so I'll just keep it at "Hugh Hefner". Because, you know: attractive rabbit women. Given "rabbit" and "attractive women" went hand-in-hand with a certain magazine... yeah... And thus also the connotation that Viera and people who made Viera characters to roleplay with were promiscuous.

People in forums would look at Viera and that'd be the reaction they would have. Even with the in-game context of Viera and all the stunts Fran does, the community really didn't let it go.

It's still a thing, especially with older FF fans, but it DEFINITELY lightened up thanks to Viera being made playable.

Mithra were also animalistic.

They are effectively the same thing. It's just a comparison, and a valid one at that when we get down to it. They are both humanlike races with animalistic features, like ears. I'm not trying to put them down or anything, but it's how it is. It would be like hyur midlander compared to hyur highlander.

Still being obtuse about simple facts? And yes male Viera do mostly look like their concept art without the obvious differences. The Au'ra concept art was shown after the fact, not before IIRC.
