I agree. He certainly knows that SOMETHING needs to be done. The problem is....he might not choose the *RIGHT way to fix it. Hence, my decision to start this thread :P
Now that I think about I would love to see the forum complaints that would erupt on players start getting two shotted by mob aoes/crowd control.
But no,endgame fights based solely on luck and Resists are not what'll help.
In then end, for the same reason that both the Golden Corral buffet and the fine dining establishments both continue to exist, I believe there is a market for both.
I still want all the things!
No idea what this thread is talking about, never heard of Golden Corral, but I usually hate what is considered high class dining, it's always ewwy stuff and it always leaves me hungry.
*googles Golden Corral*
Looks like I would enjoy most of their food
What do you mean, you didn't ask about my food preferences?![]()
To answer what most people consider this thread is about:
There once was a time, when a single tiny Dodo could wipe out an entire party...I'd rather not go back to those times.
An army of 20 deremites wiping out my party though? Seems legit.
I take it the OP is comparing FFxi to FFXIV is the way I understand it.
ie: take FOREVER to kill one mob and etc etc etc....
sorry Chuck I found that to be VERY dull, as do most video game players, we like action lots of it....fast pace and all that jazz you know.
I just want my cheesecake. Golden Corral or not, is that so hard to ask for mew?
Golden Corral has more options for a fixed amount, while a fancy restaurant charges you depending on what you get, which could cost more or less.
I'm way more inclined to go for the best value, as I like options instead of limitations.
(Also, this is a terrible analogy...just saying!)
EDIT:
On top of that, you're only seeing it in the short run. Let's use fast food (fast battle system) vs. fancy restaurant (slow battle system).
I love, and I mean LOVE sushi, but it's very expensive (the kind I get, I don't eat like a busta...I order like a thug!). I tend to only eat it once every few months, as a nice treat for myself.
I eat fast food much more often than I eat sushi. That doesn't mean I love it more, it's just cheaper and more easily accessible.
If we apply this to battle mechanics, I feel that some fights, such as bosses, should be fun and challenging, requiring more than just spamming a weaponskill whenever the timer is up. Most other fights, such as grinding off mobs in Natalan for EXP should NOT be as time consuming. So, you can have your fancy sushi while fighting a dungeon boss, and you can eat your Burger King while leveling up low jobs. I see no point in making all the fights in this game into tedious chores.

GC = more for a minimal amount of resources. FD= very little return for the amount of resources used (and often not worth it). I'll take Golden Corral. Besides, no one offers a better pot roast and yeast rolls. My god, I'd kill a [Bio]tch for those rolls!
Personally, I think there is room for both in a game. FD type mobs for NM's/Boss fights and the similar, and the GC type mobs for grinding. I can't really say that I found XI's fight style all that impressive. Sure it was one mob with a longer fight, but it was still a tedious battle with little need for strategy, and anytime a strategy was used it just became a rote action. Rinse-wash-repeat either way.
I came for carrot cake.
All i got is a chocolate fountain.
