Edit - The "tokenism" take always amuses me. On one hand folks who make this argument will sneer that the LGBTQIA+ community is a minority and therefore requires no representation. Yet somehow, it's also influential enough to make large corporations take some kind of financial risk by treating the "minority" like people, against what they claim the "majority" wants. Maybe the majority really doesn't care so much. Maybe it's just a you problem. It must be exhausting being that invested in how other people live their lives. Exhausting, and terribly lacking in your own.

Hmmm an argument I didn't make, can you answer my question? When a company openly does 2 separate things and alternates the story for other countries is this the representation you want? and can you honestly think it wont just cause an entire host of new problems in the future.

The amount of companies doing this 2 faced BS is mind blowing, they are happy to put a LGBQT picture on their twitter profile in the US/EU but when it comes to other regions you won't see anything! While some of those countries are still killing gays for no reason.... I don't support that hypocrisy

Also I'm not against LGBQT rights I've never said that. you guys shouldn't be able to co-exists and I'm against the modern killings of gays/trans in how many modern countries? No one has the rights to force their opinions/ideals on anyone else.

Almost every instance of corporate support for that community is tokenism or virtue signaling. They don't actually care.

They only care about what will make them lose the least amount of money.

Do you know how the board of directors actually works? Plus pushing ideals on an individual will most likely cause resentment not understanding/compassion.

That student Yoshida described, simply existing, isn't "pushing ideals". They are trying to live their lives like anyone else. Trying to argue that they can't is the only "pushing" I see.

Your day is really hinging on getting a "gotcha" out of me, I can tell. But I already answered your question. Yoshida can't control the hate and ignorance of the people who have matches. But he chooses to speak up, he chooses to face down the hate he described in the interview, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they take it next.

Two-faced would be remaining silent and not trying to speak his feelings at all. Luckily, I can't think of an MMO I've played recently that doesn't recognize that representation is a good thing.

People keep bringing up companies saving money and tokenism. Do I think a corporation actually cares about this subject? No, they often only do so to make or save money. Does it mean I don't want them to do representation? Also no. If a company is going to promote LGBTQ+ stuff even if it's only during pride month then at the very least it shows that my demographic is somewhat viewed as a safe or good investment. I'd rather they do that then say, push some racist agenda.

I wish they would care more obviously, but that's more of wishing that humans would care about other humans more. I'm also getting increasingly tired of people assuming every instance of representation is tokenism or marking a checkbox. Does that happen some times? Sure. Everytime? I wouldn't say so. People brought up escapism again so I'll reiterate. Escapism is for everyone. "I don't want to see real world politics in my video games/hobbies." I feel exactly the same way, and I only feel that politics aren't there when people are represented, because then I know they aren't being excluded. Call it a fantasy where minorities are more accepted.
