Wouldnt fit and you would need an entire class redesign for them.

Other games only need talent trees because you're locked into a single class on a character so you can't really have a varied experience in gameplay. They're not needed here because we can be all classes on a single character. They tried to something with cross-classing in the past, but it just became cookie-cutter where everyone was expected to level the same classes and have the same cross-class abilities. They just got rid of cross-class and made some of those role abilities.

With the way the game is designed and probably will be until the servers shut down, I don't think talent trees would really work. Even in games that have them, like WoW for example, they are really only an illusion of choice if you want to play optimally or...well, at all in some cases.

That's correct the Cross Class System, which required you as a tank to level other jobs and classes just to get an ability. Once they removed that system more people ended up joining or coming back. That system was awful.
I can only imagine being in the first RAID and one of the Hardcore Players who is playing a Bard whining why the tank does not have an ability that a White Mage and Archer has and they need to come back once they leveled those classes lol
Talent trees are just an illusion of choice because there will always be a meta that dictates one build is objectively better than the others, even if the changes are borderline cosmetic. At best, they'd be comparable to the SB version of role actions where you switch back and forth depending on fight encounter/content, and you can see how 'meh' that was
Ngl, I hated that I needed to unlock other classes to upgrade to a job/get my full skill set. I really wish one could unlearn jobs, and I'm envious of those who started playing after that system was abolishedOther games only need talent trees because you're locked into a single class on a character so you can't really have a varied experience in gameplay. This is what I experienced in other talent tree involved games:
People will always use meta build and all other builds will be waste of effort. It is how it worked in any other talent based games.
Rarely you use different talent tree because of a item scales good with it or certain boss fight requires different build but most of time you will end up meta build.
I think for FFXIV it is to late to fix anything on job system it is already fleshed out. Remaking entire all job designs tall request at this point.
For some people game easy and they get bored after doing same dungeon 2-3 times.
For some people it is hard they want kind of "button smash style" game play.
SE trying appeal both groups, only way I can figure out keeping some jobs complex and making other ones "one button smash job", this is what they trying to do I believe.

They decided to remove cross class because players like yourself would attempt to enter extreme+ content without mandatory skills like Provoke, and then cause the party to wipe over and over. 'Hardcore' players didn't really like that system either, fyi. That's correct the Cross Class System, which required you as a tank to level other jobs and classes just to get an ability. In my opinion...no please gods no talent trees. There are enough (most) MMORPGS out there that use talent trees so why the heck would you want to make every MMO the same? I know it's a crazy concept but you don't have to make everything the same cause you like one system more than the other, you can actually play...i know that might sound a bit revolutionary and insane...play two MMOs at the same time!
The problem with talent trees is that there will be always a meta and people will not customize their jobs to their liking but follow the meta to be as good as you can be. Which invalidates the existence of all other talents in said tree cause if you pick them you are basically worse off than if you picked the other option. There will be guides in no time to optimize the kupo out of it. Not to mention that such systems push toxicity cause if you put your points in something else than what the meta is you can be sure people in partyfinder etc. will give you hell for it.
If you really like talent trees go play path of exile.

I'll agree with no to talent trees.
a fair number of downsides, and not enough up
