Seems a lot of people in this thread either ignored the Future of FFXIV PLL or didn't watch it, as Yoshida said in the future they will give players the option to start from 6.1 when creating a new character. This is why the Unending Codex exists.

This... and there's absolutely no way to sensibly explain how some rando ended up with Azems' (our) crystal. Iscah's post on just giving people a one-time skip for those who want it but maintaining the narrative of what came before is the most reasonable. Those people who skip will be lost storywise and will have to catch up another way, but that's their choice to make. There's zero reason for the devs to toss a story they spent years on for a completely new starting point, and somehow explain how/why you just happen to end up working with all these major figures and the needed dialog changes that come with them. People seem to underestimate what a mess that would be, and I don't see it being worth the dev time when they could be working on something actually worth while. The WoL is the current reincarnation of the sundered version of Azem from the Source. A new character who isn't the WoL wouldn't be that and we don't know where the devs might take that in the future. Also, the relationships we have not just with the Scions but people around the world are the result of the journey of the WoL. Cid, for instance, is not going to look upon a new adventurer with the same trust as he would the WoL who helped him remember who he was. The WoL gets involved in so much now because those relationships are well developed. You can't just slot in someone new like trading in Darrins in Bewitched and expect the story would just continue on like nothing was different.
Pretty sure the devs said nothing about a completely new character, as in, not the original WoL. A skip while maintaining the narrative is far more likely.
Yoshi P has already sad the leveling does not teach people how to play there class. So he basically confirmed boosting isn't a factor the game just sucks at teaching anyone how to play.
The only problem is 6.1 doesn't feel like a starting point, but it kinda could be a starting point. The biggest mistake was bringing the scions back in for 6.1 IMO because they will just confuse players coming in. Granted I guess the unending codex could help with that, I did not mess with it much but I don't think he really had a whole lot in it. Also I guess he backed off on his previous statement back in ShB when they gave us a roadmap of 6.0-6.5 where we would be introduced to a new character and traveling partner in 6.1, and depending on feed back they would decide to keep this character or not.
