I really didn't intend to make a direct statement on the difficulties of translation, but more so saying it was confusing to me as a native speaker without trying to infer bias on what scenario I would like to happen from their word choice and that in my experience of more obscure Japanese media like VNs or early internet anime subtitles it can be a bit wonky at times. Especially since back in the day most of it was done by amateur groups practicing.

Honestly you just described a very good case for why "simply translating from Japanese into English won't work". You know those moments where anime subtitles and visual novels had weird "non-English"? It's that.
It's good people know Japanese, but it's not enough to translate it. Even bilingual people stumble on it. A text isn't just words, and the further down you go into context-heavy languages the weirder it gets. It's why they say "A yes isn't 'yes' in Japanese". Because context matters. And that's context alone, nevermind idiomatic expressions, or just the language itself being a jumbled mess overall. Looking at you, Korean.

Amateurs are good to get the product out quickly and easily, but it's sloppy and either underpaid or just fans doing it from initiative. Professional, trained and paid-for translators tend to try and do a better job and are aware of the risks they're taking. When dealing with information, it can get dangerous and blow up in your own face. Especially since the tendency is to just shoot the messenger. And this community is too quick to do that. "Oh, the English version does this and that, it's best to see what the original says". When the original is often just as confusing anyway.

We know the people who got a house keep their house. And we know that there will be stuff done to mitigate the damage done to those who "lost" their plot. Now we just gotta figure out how. So I'm guessing we're all really just waiting on Update 4?

Yeah basically. There WERE winners of the 0'd out plots. But the two systems didn't play nice and displayed that nobody won on those. So they are taking it and merging the data more or less to properly display who won so that they get their plot. And then they will manually take the gil if they have to from those people. Pretty much what i'm being told about it currently (as I just woke up to check on the situation). And that all in all it might take up to 3 days or longer if something goes wrong. But that it will accompany a maintenance and patch.

I suppose so. It seems that the lottery went by fine itself but a client side error with the 0 bug happened but they can still determine a winner. From what it said the 0 bug winners will get the plot and they're discussing options on how to collect the gil from the winners if they got their refund.
