It feels like the forum is now for people who hate the game, it honestly got worse after the expansion came out for some reason.
The OP isn't talking about criticism the OP is talking about '' spewing vitriol ''.
Do you not understand the difference?
I will dislike any and all suits.
They're the reason things stopped improving~
Money's fault, not a devs' :3
The difference means nothing when it's regularly conflated towards any form of negativity. We've regularly given criticism and been dismissed not only by our peers, but by the devs themselves in recent history. When you show contempt to others, they tend to return that contempt. I'd rather not devolve into blithering rage against the creators, but for some reason they intend so hard to taunt their base (Hrothgar situation/"Go play Ultimate"/"We know people want things how they were before, but we're not going to do that. Moving on with no explanation."/"We know literally everything is instanced in this game, but we won't do that for housing. Now enjoy 25% of supply to an overwhelming demand.")
When you're basically telling people to take a hike, you really shouldn't be surprised if the other party turns aggressive.
Also, there are more constructive ways of explaining the difference to those who may not agree or even know what you think it is. Though I suppose there's a special irony in handwaving what vitriol means while being condescending to someone in the literal same breath. Almost an art.

And where is that happening exactly? Because I haven't been seeing it. What I HAVE been seeing is people voicing their concerns in detail while remaining calm and rational while others are acting like this is some wild vicious attack.

I love the game, and I think many others share the same opinion. More people have come out now, to question design decisions in this expansion, because it has simply come to a head. We want to see them do better, and the only way anything will happen is if we make our voices heard. Hrothgar players rejected their hairstyles, and they may now (eventually) actually get some custom hairs, instead of.. whatever they got.. and were going to get, for example. Can you imagine all those earless hroths? Others are ex-WoW players who see the writing on the wall, who don't want to see the game go the way of WoW.
The problem here is, a lot of players see criticism in general as "spewing vitriol".

Then yeah, you pretty much joined during this game’s high point in terms of the density of good things the dev team did. They never made improvements that big ever since, and I don’t think they were ever again as in-tune with the needs of the players outside of those fucking weapons. Even then, things like cooldowns resetting on wipes didn’t come until after years of complaining all the way back in ARR so they clearly weren’t that in-tune.
It might’ve set some slightly unreasonable expectations lmao
I almost thought this game was doomed when they released the Coven weapons. They proceeded to never make a mistake that bad ever again, so good for them. Everything else has either been retreads of old mistakes that I have long since coped with, or in the case of job design, awfully received stop-gaps for bigger reworks that will likely end up being extremely controversial but still at least unambiguously better than the stop-gap they did.
Like, say what you want about 6.0 MNK compared to peak MNK but I think you’d be hard pressed to justify it being just as bad or worse than 5.5 gutted GL MNK or 5.2 “cutscenes and forced downtime are in vogue, sorry about your GL” MNK.
The next iteration of Samurai will be much the same, I bet!
I mean at this point what else is there to do? This is a company that released Hrothgar hairstyles in the state that they are. Sure, it's a minor thing but it kind of blew open the doors for people to start seeing all the mediocrity that CBU3 pulls.

This has been the forums for the last few years. Ever since Shadowbringers became popular, we have been on a downward spiral. I thought it was bad in Stormblood, but I seem to have been wrong. It was mixed with healthy posts, and unhealthy posts. Now its just mostly unhealthy. The forums these days.... Hm.... I almost miss the troll post spam.... almost.
Let's see....
1) Taking a game so seriously that you insult other people over it
2) Being condescending, insulting, and/or overly aggressive to people who do not share your opinion or dare to be positive/negative
????
Yikes. maybe the stress has gotten to people with all that's going on in the world, which, yeah understandable, but jiminy Christmas, everyone here needs to take a step back and relax.
Housing, glamour, job balancing, etc etc needs work, yes, but that doesn't excuse spewing vitriol at each other.
The people on this forum are not your enemies, they are fellow human beings who want to play this game and have fun, just like you do.
Please, try to be kind to each other.
I mean it's simple, people that are unhappy want a place to rant, a forum is the perfect place to find like minded folks who will eventually agree with you. Here they find instant gratification which gives you those happy feels you get when others agree with you.
In-game you are less likely to find people who don't put you down for that. 50 people are more than enough to make it look like the whole community agrees with you since not all that many people actually visit the forums. Thats also the reason why it seems like the majority is being negative about the game and devs.
While some complains are valid like the lazy work with the Hrothgar ears which is ridiculous to get even the okay for release when someone clearly didn't even put an hour of work into that...
Others are subjective but people like to rant anyways.
