Why would Yoshi-P even waste his time addressing the discourse surrounding the story and attempt to clarify by offering his and Ishikawa's interpretation of the story in a LL if it wasn't controversial? If it wasn't, he could've simply ignored it, but he didn't, so...

I don't think he ever directly answered any criticisms of the story? He talked about Hydaelyn and some other subjects because people were curious, not to quell the intense controversy fueled by incensed forum posters.

It shatters their illusion that this is a perfect game. I've noticed that some people (mostly on the FFXIV subreddit) are so heavily invested in this game that they take any criticism of the game as an attack on themselves, so they can't help but become defensive and say something in retaliation.
