There isn’t anything factual stating the ancients would have been heading for the dead ends, that’s what Venat thought would happen, not what might have actually happened. Unfortunately we’ll never know because she lost hope in her people.

As for the shards, keep in mind, due to the sundering peoples lives were incredibly shortened, that’s a lot of death on hydaelyn’s hands, deaths that continue to this day. While yes, the calamities caused a lot of death again, it’s something hydaelyn’s plan relied upon. She needed emet and co to initiate said calamities otherwise who knows what would happen, she needed everything to happen exactly the way the WoL told her. That’s why a lot of people find her plan flawed.
I mean did you not see how delusional the Convocation acted when they ignored her? Granted they were under a crisis but they didnt even try to reason anymore with their statements of preserving their "perfect paradise with no pain nor suffering". I'm sorry but those are huge red flags for me, and it was clear that the Ancients were very much flawed or well ok thats not fair for me to generalize the whole group, but it seems like their leaders anyway.

Honestly Im still trying to figure out why the LL gave such odd explanations to the story that contradicted what was shown in-game with what Venat did, because if you ignored what they said on the spot with them explaining the lore yeah, it makes no sense and its an overall mess. Part of me wants to doubt those statements because then we're traversing into WoW levels of lore inconsistency and having to read outside material to understand it. I guess we'll have to wait if a future lore book confirms those statements made in the LL or not.
