I'm sure what happened is they programmed in a 0 for plots no one bid on. Most likely when the patch went live, code got messy and suddenly there's a chance you can get 0 as a result. When that happens it bugs out, and says no one participated (as it is programmed to do in the event no one did). It's more common on FC houses because there are fewer bidders than personal houses. For houses with only 1 bidder, well, 50% chance you roll a 0 and it bugs.

Hopefully SE will address this sooner rather than later. Don't reclaim your gil yet, sit tight and wait. It sucks, but it is what it is.

It makes sense for them to code in a failsafe of sorts for plots with no bidders. However, I’m fairly certain that you can design code to “ignore ‘0’ if x condition is met”, which, in this case would be “ignore ‘0’ if plot has active bids”. The more I think on this, the more I’m starting to believe that this 0 is not a bug and was 100% intentional.

I'm not willing to subscribe to conspiracy theories, I'll assume it was just a bug for now. I would like to think SE wouldn't dare do this sort of thing knowing how disgruntled players are about housing atm.

Considering how borked the housing in this game has always been, I don’t consider them actually making the no winners a possibility a conspiracy theory. You have way more faith in SE than I do.

From the Housing Lottery notes: "One winning entry will be randomly selected from the pool of applicants, and the player who submitted that entry will gain the ability to finalize their purchase of the plot."

That tells me that there will and should be a winner, not a possibility that no one would get it.

Yes, I know. And that ultimately depends on what their definition of “winning entry” is. If it is one made by an actual player, or the failsafe.

I have no faith in the development team when it comes to housing in this game. So this might just be my cynicism showing. Either way, this looks bad on them: either they launched this system with it bugged (because clearly they didn’t try to test their code), or they launched a system with a possibility that no one won.
