so why is not having many crafters a good thing? the only answer I can come up with is greed.
too few can be just as bad as too many
the problem is alot of people dont know what the balance even is, in my eyes, if the gear cost less then the materials all across the board, you have too many crafters
when the gear all cost several times more then the materials across the boardm, you probly have too few
its when the prices are very similar you have a nice balance
of course those that dont craft or hate crafters will always want the balance tipped in favor of the cheapest gear possible(which is why alot of stuff just plain isnt for sale anymore)

that's the very reason i don't craft items to sell in wards anymore. i can make more gil off making and selling fleece and other materials than the items they make so i just don't make them. there's too many crafters in the game atm and with the sp increases they've added it will only continue to get worse as time goes on. they can keep making the gear and selling for a loss if they want, but i will just keep making the mats and selling them for more profit.too few can be just as bad as too many

Poffins was a solid mini-game based crafting system. I'd like to see something engaging and possible to interact with party members for boosted results/xp similar to how this system worked.
I can see it now:
{Disciples of the Hand} {Party} {Can I have it?} 30 {Goldsmith} {Do you need it?}
EDIT: Not sure if this was mentioned earlier in the thread, apologies if it has been.
I want fishing to be like it was in XI. aka short and sweet and not a guessing game. Mining and botany should have similar minigames to fishing.
Crafting just needs to be something other than spamming Enter. It can be as tedious as it wants, but there's something wrong when I can clean my home, and craft with success simultaneously.
It's annoying as a newbie or returning player as it's not clear how much effort you have to put in to level up and gain access to repairing and materia melding. It takes a LONG time if you're fairly new and don't have hours and hours to spare.
I spent a good few hours getting Blacksmith to 18 to unlock materia melding quest, then realized that in order to attach anything worthwhile I have to be level 40 plus, and have the right class - blacksmith is only good for weapons etc.
Realizing that made me want to shoot myself.
I don't feel like that at all with WAR and Magic classes. The leveling feels just right there, especially with rested bonus.
Something about crafting is incredibly sapping, like being at work rather than playing a game.

Boring
Slow

I don't even bother selling crafted items anymore. I make way more money off of harvested mats and a select few materials that need to be crafted.
Crafting in FFXIV is a blast! But then I tend to wake up 5 hours later to discover I actually only crafted about 3 things and there is drool on my keyboard.
