I feel like I have to use mods to play my favorite race and have it look decent too, and it sucks. Real bad.

It feels like because Hrothgar isn't played a lot devs do not care, but the reason people wont go Hroth is because its so limited in the first place, so its just a never ending circle of disappointment.

Beside the little fact it's always nicer to represent the character to others as you see him? Mods are pretty much a one sided show, sadly.


And what I read several times in all that discussions...
We are not really talking about rewarding the devs in the worst case scenario, and buy fantasia to turn into other races? *confused scratching*

i don't know what else we're expected to do. it's immensely frustrating to be treated like garbage

Fully understandable. The more as it's a topic that pops up with many games and their playable beast races.
Most developers lose the enthusiam from getting the idea of adding them until release. And XIV it already went the easier way by just adding tail and exchange the head plus fiddling with secondary details (like SWG, TES-games), and not giving more beastial attributes around the rest of the body like claws, digitigraded legs, etc.

As a beast race player, I totally get the bad vibes. The more as it's a topic running for decades already. Including devs never learning from past mistakes right from the beginning. And only a few go their steps to improve their creations - and often after years of complaints.

But I simply don't think it's the ideal solution to throw good money into a bad sink, rewarding bad dev decisions, and additionally giving a sign, that adding hroth was the worst to do ever.

Personally, there are only the options to leave everything as it is now around the character, or simply quit the game. As I love my toon(s), and still the game, it's the first after all.

Not encouraging people up to use mods. But fully understandable, and personal choice to go risky.

In the meantime, we can just wait the bit time left, and then think about opening more cans of worms. We waited for 3 years already, 4 more days couldn't harm anymore. Time to enjoy some relaxing tea or whatsoever, heh

Charr also get somewhat of a shafted treatment. a lot of the armors, especially medium sets don't accommodate their bodies. But it's not as bad as XIV, not by a long shot.

Totally agree. The medium armors sets let me hesitate to play the respective classes like engineer, thief (Daredevil shown, btw) for a long while. But even ANet learned, and a lot of pieces don't just stick through clothes. Now it's more common the leave gaps for the tails, or even create flaps to cover their base.

Sure, far from perfect and very mixed, but at least something to work with the beast aspects.

Now with logging into GW2 more frequently, it feels a lot less lonely as there are far more Charr to be seen everywhere.
People are not against playing beast races (Hroth), but their limitations obviously.

But also the NPC aspect of that. They are woven into the world a lot better, while with Hroth? Classic world only the GNB trainer, with ShB on the first shard a few and Bozja. EW only has 2 in Sharlayan, and a third popping inside the council once. Plus some silent boys here and there like Labyrinthos. That's the more obvious ones I noticed. If there are more hidden guys, it also tells a lot, if you have to search every far corner for one race.
That really doesn't feel integrated and good on the long term.

if it weren't something that could get us banned AND could only be applied to certain characters, i'd at the very least would consider it.
it doesn't feel right changing how someone else looks and depending on the mod it can be just downright creepy.


so vanilla it is for me. i'll just... stick with my default hair on my hroth alt i guess, unfortunately.

There are ways to apply it only to certain characters. I won't describe them here because I don't think I'm even allowed to elaborate any further xD but that information is out there. I only know it because what I see other players talk about, so I assume that information is accessible. Still, obligatory "don't do mods kids" to keep it ToS friendly.

But it's still an awkward situation all around. There is a solution for this, but Square not only rejects it, they tell people to stay away from it. Yet these things should be considered into Vanilla. Because I get it, a lot of mods out there aren't viable at all for the tone Square Enix wants to keep for their game. But if there are people fixing their stuff for them like this, they could at least consider that sort of work.
