I can respect that since I have a similar experience too. Currently OCE have a balanced mix of "i do what i want/you dont pay my sub" and "players that play every content properly (even MSQ roulettes) xDOr a lot like people coming to XIV over the past two years, being amazed at the community when the one in the game(s) they played until recently are so horrible, then remarking on the increased visibility of trolls in this game as more people move here from other games.
No candy-coating here, after living in Japan for a while and coming back to NA online gaming communities I rolled on a JP server as fast as I could when starting XIV because I encountered too many toxic assholes in NA-based MMOs. Yes, it was specifically to get the hell away from the cesspit of horrible behavior that were NA MMO servers. No, I do not want the cesspit of those behaviors working its way over to JP servers.
Is it xenophobia? No. I'm American and live in the US. I do, however, want to keep the sanctuaries that are JP datacenters free of the dumpster fires, behavioral baggage, and bad habits that people coming from other NA MMOs bring with them. Am I judgmental? If that's what you want to call it, sure. After too many experiences with asshats over too many years in NA-based MMOs, it's clear to me that behaviors and attitudes I want to avoid are common and accepted among the general NA-based MMO player base. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I've learned my lessons and the message is loud and clear.
Link NA, EU, and OCE and let everyone on those DCs play with each other until the end of the game, I think it's awesome. However, keep the JP DCs separate and places where people who want to be there for the long-term and accept the social contract of being on a JP server can play in peace.

it's not really xenophobia if all those horror stories comes from other Americans. There's absolutely nothing stopping a troll from making a new character on a JP data center right now. It just seems strange that the issue is always framed as Westerners, particularly Americans rushing in and "ruining" the Japanese servers. It smells a lot like xenophobia.
I understand where both of ya'll are coming from. But the one thing that I don't get is the portrayal that the JP data center is an utopia that will be ruined by the other data centers. If you go to the JP General forums right now there's a thread talking about in game harassment and how they feel about the handling of it.
There is no reason why everyone shouldn't be able to play with everyone. Either people adapt or just get excluded and if they are bad get banned. There has been and will be bad actors in each and every data center. And so far the JP community has been the only one called out for there behavior.
i am originally from masamune (mana datacenter) and have moved last year to sargatanas (aether datacenter) after a 4 year hiatus since 4.2 to join friends from another MMORPG looking to try FF14
so far my experience with NA players in aether have generally been positive and similar to JP for most content (big pulls are the norm, most healers aren't cure bots and do dps, tanks pickup stray adds going after the party, etc.) except for alliance raids and party finder.
in alliance raids you have a lot of lazy people just hoping to get carried or have no knowledge of mechanics beyond crystal tower raids, and in party finder you have a lot of people who do not read the description and lie about their progression/knowledge_of_the_fight.
all in all it's not so bad but i do miss hanging out with my friends from the JP servers so i do hope they give us cross region datacenter visit. i don't think people would hang out and troll on the other regions, they'd probably visit out of curiosity at first but eventually head back to their home regions where latency/lag is more favourable

I don't understand why anyone would want to visit a different region just to do instanced content with strangers. The lag would be terrible. Party Finder and Duty Finder would probably be unaffected.
I would like the ability to visit so I could check out people's housing, join for big events and hunt for rare items on the market board that aren't being sold anywhere in my region. Although I would understand if the MB was disabled for region visitors.

That is not really true. I play also on NA servers from the EU. And the lag is acceptable although i notice it. MMOs are usually very lag tolerant games. The long GCD helps to mitigate the lag.
Cheers
in my case, it's to play with friends i left behind on another region (JP). i have a static to do endgame content with in aether (NA) and while i can make an alt there (JP) to achieve this, it's just too much work for me to maintain more two characters (yes, i already have an alt i use for alt-raiding savage here in aether as well)

Yeah I get playing with friends. Some people in this thread have raised concerns that people would travel to other regions and ruin the experience of those native to the region. But if you're with friends, you're obviously wanted there and not ruining anything since you'll be in a premade group. I don't see the point of going to another region to do content with strangers (and possibly impose your region's culture on them in the process).in my case, it's to play with friends i left behind on another region (JP). i have a static to do endgame content with in aether (NA) and while i can make an alt there (JP) to achieve this, it's just too much work for me to maintain more two characters (yes, i already have an alt i use for alt-raiding savage here in aether as well)

I also really would like cross region/physical data center travel. I started playing in 1.0 on Sargatanas from the UK because the EU and NA servers were in the same physical location (thus same latency) and I wanted to play with people on a forum I was a part of. Eventually come ARR the same forum had an influx of new comers who started on Ultros again as a primarily American forum with no "offical" EU FC set up due to the servers being in the same place it wouldn't matter anyway. So I transferred from Sarg to Ultros and have been there ever since. When the servers were moved further away from the UK I stayed, when the EU servers were moved to Europe I stayed as I enjoyed playing with the FC and didn't want to move somewhere where I wouldn't know anyone to play with and have to start over again with a fresh FC and new people.
Eventually my real life friends started playing, one played in secret for a long time on Playstation and I eventually convinced them to join me on Ultros moving from an EU server as they just played alone. Eventually two more real life friends also finally started playing and again joined Ultros so we could all play together, I could keep my leveled up jobs, amassed mount and minion collection, house etc and as they never knew the EU latency they wouldn't complain about it as it's honestly not that bad. I previously made an EU character to play with some friends of friends who started on EU servers to play with their real life friends I didn't know and I casually did the story with them so while the latency was noticeably better, it wasn't good enough for me to abandon my character or move from Ultros.
With the new servers being added my friends asked about moving to Phantom and I said I wasn't as I already had my house and the FC I'm in and they stayed and eventually got a Small house after trying for a while (and flubbing the initial Ishgard housing by putting a bid in on a popular Small plot instead of one of the many left with 0 actual bids). Then the first friend that joined me decided to move to Phantom without telling us because he was sick of the latency and lag and then the two others followed him so now I can't play with them. I moved my lvl 50 character that I did the casual ARR playthrough with over to Phantom but I seriously don't want to do the story and level up everything again (or pay the money for the expensive skips) and I don't want to move my main character from Ultros and lose my home I finally got set up how I like and all my FC mates so now we just don't play together any more.
If we could move cross region this wouldn't be an issue. I could log on and transfer over to play with them when they want to run WT or the latest story dungeon/trial they've reached and I wouldn't lose access to Ultros. It's just really depressed me getting abandoned like that and then given the choice between playing with friends or abandoning almost 10 years with the same FC players and server.
Its not, u can direct trade with players and use market.
Some times I back home at 3am and cant find any activity ingame.
Its not
