Well, Blizzard targeted single player games players and you see how they melt down on some random element of them game from time to time. Since Legion on WoW forums some people went nuclear when they had to do M0 for a world quest or for some profession unlock quest or rewards topics (or more accurately - spite complaints/spite induced game changes ideas against players that don't play like them and that there is content they never can run without hard carry if at all).

FF14 is trying to invite FF single player players that did not played it for years due to online nature - sounds weird. Either they are fanatical enough to never complain or it will go downhill really quickly ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Asmongold/c...icult_for_wow/ - this is a typical single player in WoW ). The game already doesn't require job stones, job quests, sane ilvl of gear and so on... and with Trust they will be hidden from MSQ but will show up for optional instances sooner or later.

Earlier World of Warcraft talent trees (left) allowed for some degree of creativity, but the modern ones (right) simply offer rigid choices every few levels, with options that are all-too-often mathematically inferior.
The article isn't fully correct. The talent trees are an illusion of choice as now anyone aiming at anything "good" will follow the meta with BiS builds. Classic was a success because it was a WoW where player mattered way more and the game was more than just end-game at current patch and retention metrics.
