Future direction of FFXIV

I'm only unhappy with the story of EW. I'm thrilled that they're going to make the game more solo friendly and are adding 1-4 player challenge dungeons, those are features I've wanted in an MMO for years.

I don't know what went wrong with EW's writing since I loved ShB, but it's sapped my enthusiasm for the story going forward and I'm leery of 6.1+. I can't say for certain who I think should be shuffled out or should at least have their influenced pulled back from the writing process since I don't know who was responsible for what.

I think yoshi p is just tired of this story arc tbh. They really rushed it and they themselves have basically said it was supposed to keep going for 1-2 more expansions. I think hes going onto new heights with 16.

In a recent interview, they apparently confirmed they cut an entire Garlemald expansion. Whatever they have coming next better be good.

I just want more content that works. I feel they have a bad habit of spending alot of time on experimental content that doesn't have a long shelf life. Where as if we just got more of what works (Savage, more raids in general, more ex trials, etc...) it would be alot stronger. Also they need to reintroduce a skill floor to some roles and jobs. As for story, I've not cared for it since SB. I kind of like 14 story wise more when it was just 12-2 basically.

Idk about Yoshida. He knows what he is doing, but in the last few LL he has seemed burned out and like he doesn't really know what's going on in the game anymore. As if someone else is taking the wheel behind the scenes already.

What they really need to do is find a new writer, because the ppl behind EW took a great narrative and turned the game into a bad anime and it was almost criminal. For the most part it felt like they adapted a piece of fanfic. As someone who has played this game since og launch, I can barely bring myself to even log in anymore between the poor literary direction and the sheer redundancy of everything. It was GoT all over again imo.

We need new ppl, with new ideas, who are given a fair shot at making those ideas a reality in both the upcoming stories and content. But they don't listen to us so no matter what we say, nothing will come of it. Posting on these forums is like screaming into the void.

Not gonna lie, the difference between the creative unit in charge of FFXIV and the rest of Square Enix is huge. I feel like people wishing Yoshida and co leaving would be a monkey's paw. Can't imagine SQEX's chosen replacement being anything but worse.

Same, even if I think there's a lot that can be done better. Monkey's paw makes me think of the poor souls who wanted a simple FF7 remaster or a new Chocobo Racing game... where it just curled up into a fist and punched them in the gut.

My guess is we've a better chance of getting what we want from CBU3 pushed towards slightly increased ambition than by swapping them wholesale for "fresh eyes", especially given the norms for the modern industry (or other SE teams in particular).

Would I appreciate getting some fresh ideas into CB3, and maybe even seeing a co-director added to XIV? Sure. But I'm not going to trust a random chance changing of the guard over a push in vision among the existing team.

At this point I'm thinking it might've not been cut so much as it was delayed, considering that they're still keeping the majority of Ilsabard hidden.

I think a story about the transitional period after the fall of the empire has a lot of potential to be interesting as it's created a very messy political situation with their people likely divided about their future and potentially vulnerable to those whom they once oppressed.

From what they’ve said it was cut not delayed. The problem is too, with them rushing to get this expansion out, cutting the garlemald expansion, it ruined Bozja as well. Matsuno wasn’t able to even fully complete his story and instead the story had to be resolved anti climactically and off screen.

I'm close to quit the game (thanks to god) because since I'm done with the main plot (ARR-EW) there is actually nothing interesting to do(again) or be hyped about(Sorry Square to me, FFXIV ended for real with EW) . SE its going to repeat the same formula forever until they release a new MMO

- Release a new patch every 3-4 months
1) New trial or Raid and 1 hour of non voiced text in MSQ.
2) New content already done in 2 days
3) Back to do roulettes and pre ARR dungeons/trails again for tomes
- Then SE releases the relic weapon
1) Requires to do old content again like the Shadowbringer relic weapon (the worst so far) that gonna require another 20 runs of CT, visit ARR/HS content etc.
2) Most people skip it until SE nerfs the previous step
3) Repeat the same cycle.
4) Reuse the same boring events over and over (I stopped doing them like 2 years ago. the rewards are always laughable ;" Here .. a new chair and earring! come back the next year)

EW was just an unfinished/unpolished expansion that nobody even talks about unlike HS or SHB.

I think the developers need to find more ways to add games within the game. Golden Saucer and Maps are nice additions. Better housing, more things to do within wards (assuming they want to keep the ward system) and perhaps farming or fishing or mining games might help stabilize the content between expansions. Maybe even expeditions (archaeology) for the adventuring types.
