What the heck is with some of hostility towards Linux users in here, jeeeeeez some of you have deep issues I would consider working through.

Tis not overwhelmingly difficult to develop software native to Linux even if not native with advancements in Proton and DXVK easier then ever to get non native stuffs running. Do not much care what Torvalds said about package managers or some indie dev winging about bug reports. Have assisted in developing much for Linux (mostly server stuffs), was no problem.

For anyone in here without something lodged within their posterior, have been poking about the source code for one certain forbidden launcher. They are already in progress implementing various things to re-enable Linux compatibility for FF14. If are familiar with how to read code can easily find their github and have peek for yourself. Most of what I saw was placeholder code buuuuuut there is hope! Will be switching primarily to Linux myself sooooon as cannot stand Windows 10 or 11. Enjoy having low memory footprint and install size for my OS thank you very much. Also do not enjoy when my OS believes it knows better how I should use my PC then I do.

Really really fun disabling annoying garbage over and over and over like Windows Derpfender on my Windows servers, really really fun mmhmm. Do not have to do that on my Linux boxes. Pop in thumb drive > install > launch os > grab dependencies > never require a restart ever again is quite nice yup yup. It does not even gargle down several gigabytes of memory simply existing either or decide meow is the time to index my entire drive for "faster search lookup" I am looking at you Windows localhost guzzling down more cpu cycles than a muckbanger.

Appearently someone has found a solution, unfortunately you need Lutris to run it, can't use the native Steam client for Linux.

At least I'm sitting over here playing FF14.

No matter what angle you look at it, FFXIV is a great fit for the Steamdeck and in return, the Steamdeck and it's inevitable clones have the potential to expand the game's reach into a whole new market that until know has only ever really known ancient MMO ports or gatcha cash grabs.
Somehow my adblocker didn't catch this one.

There are some things I'll openly admit to being bitter about.

SE opening up the doors to an entirely new segment isn't one of those though.

Are you genuinely trying to suggest that expanding the reach of this game to a new segment of players is in any way a bad thing? Your edgy jibes aren't cutting the mustard son.

Indeed. The Steamdeck and it's inevitable clones have the potential to go far beyond Linux diehards assuming Valve can keep the price consistent and actually go someway towards meeting demand (and I appreciate those are big ifs). If Valve can get them out in the sort of quantities that demand suggests then it's user base will be no more a bunch of Linux sheep than your typical Android users.

Got me! Say.. is there a chance you have not experienced coitus in some time? Short dudes need loving too.

Buuut I am kinda playing right meow actually! Soon-ish so will Linux users, perhaps will even make commit to the forbidden launcher github while you mald for no particular reason I suppose.

Do not care what the OS is called as long as it is light weight and efficient with capability to support the playing of games or running of my servers.

The heck are people tying their identity to the operating system of choice? It boggles the mind. I worked in system administration, you will never make me like Windows but unlike some I will not discourage others from using it. Unsure why the launcher even relies on IE or proprietary garbage in first place. Already exists working version on PS4/PS5 they could easily port over for better Linux compatibility. Nah, slinging insults is more of the funny!
