Imagine wanting to be able to use the product you pay for
Pretty entitled amirite
...like I don't use Linux, never have, prooobably never will, but some of the responses to this problem are genuinely kind of baffling.

You pay for a Windows PC license, not a Linux license. The fact that PC games work on Linux, unsupported by the game companies themselves, is a testament to the creativity of programmers in the Linux community. That does not excuse Linux user complaints to Square Enix for breaking their working system when introducing a feature in their Windows software. They are complaining to the wrong people.
People are just asking SquareEnix for support for a new platform (the Steam Deck) because they find it cool to be able to play the game on a handheld console. Maybe it doesn't seem like a good idea to you, but for some people it is. They are not depanding anything, but giving a suggestion, that SquareEnix is like you say, free to ignore. You pay for a Windows PC license, not a Linux license. Many people give suggestions in these forums that go nowhere, and then some of those suggestions are listened to, that's what the forums are for anyway. If we get a clear response from SquareEnix saying there are no plans to support the Steam Deck, then, so be it, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't suggest opening a new market.
I mean, they added support for macOS, which except for high end Macs, the game doesn't run really well, and still they decided to add support for it, What's wrong asking for support for a new handheld console that looks promising?
Just stop seeing it as complaints and try to see it just as a suggestion.

Technically I pay for a Steam license, which is apparently different enough to saddle me with every asinine change SE decides to make to the Steam version of the game. From my perspective this is just yet another unecessary problem caused by an unecessary change that was poorly communicated and poorly implemented. You pay for a Windows PC license, not a Linux license. They should correct the launcher just because the technology it uses is not mantained by its own creators and because appearently with the last macOS update the launcher is no longer working on macOS which is a supported platform.
I love hearing how Linux is so rare just a few or us use it, I must be going crazy but I think more than half mobile phones are running a Linux based operating system.
To be fair, from the perspective of desktop/gaming computing it is a pretty small market-share. Cloud computing (and mobile) is another story indeed, where Linux easily makes up 90% of the market.
That said, if the core game works effortlessly on Linux it's pretty unreasonable to deny the entire platform over something as stupid as the way they're choosing to render the launcher of all things. The amount of extremely hostile white-knighting in this thread is extremely embarrassing.

I don't use Linux myself but I do not understand the bad attitude from people in this thread. They just want to play the game why does it bother you so much? I have friends on Linux and have played with no issues for years ( and still no issues, the recent issues are purely a Steam problem ). Why does it bother you so much? Just crawl back under your bridge.

I agree, I have ever used Linux but if people want to use another OS whats wrong with that? Steam has worked hard on Proton and its very user friendly I think many companies are worried about the cheating that can happen due to its programmingI don't use Linux myself but I do not understand the bad attitude from people in this thread.
