Old launcher no longer working

I've emailed SE support about this issue, pointing out that 14 is still shown as valid Linux game on Steam (and that Steam was treated as a whole another platform than windows, PSx, Mac thus far), got a reply that it was sent to the devs so mayhaps...
I doubt they'll manage to develop a whole new launcher any time soon for a niche like Linux/Steamdeck players.. old launcher with an updated JS maybe an option tho..
Let's hope Gaben will go brr and help us.

I opened a ticket aswell, unfortunately got a generic reply asking me to run msinfo and dxdiag, which unfortunately won't work because msinfo only shows Wine version and I'm not sure if I can run dxdiag with proton.

In any case I sent them a copy of the Steam System Information you can gather from the Steam app Help menu and I'm hoping I can get a reply. I also clarified that the license I have purchased is for Steam as platform, and not the "Windows" one, I'm not sure if that even matters, but hopefully because I had to repurchase the game to play through the Steam client they can work to fix that problem, specially considering they have a separate license for Steam and people who buy the Steam one will probably want to be able to play on Steam Deck.

The game has worked flawlessly for me in Linux using Steam Proton over the last several months, but I also had to use the workaround of using the old launcher. Throwing my +1 on the pile for no longer being able to login due to this forced update. Really frustrating that the launcher of all things is what's preventing us from playing.

if anyone happens to find another workaround by any means (such as winetools), please share it!

If you were business-wise OK with cutting out Linux playerbase, you should be business-wise OK with some kind of a refund for that. I know it was not your decision, but I hope that my feedback will somehow get to people responsible for that.

But it seems, supports got busy since the latest deploy - so let's hope that someone will speak out to the managers and make things right there...

I dunno how many Linux/Steam Deck players there are - but let's unite, speak out, and don't let the corp (or dare I say Ascians?) to push us around
Rn I'm trying single GPU passthrough, if it renders as a failure, I might as well try to reach out to Wine team and figure out M$ ways of doing things.

Valve's list has nothing to do with SE. They do not officially support Linux for this game and thankfully they probably never will.

Sad... I guess I'll just stop playing. FF is not worth my time getting Windows to run again.

Hi! I doubt there is any workaround, Wine simply does not support weird M$ outdated ways of tech.. They're working on that: https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.g...ommit&s=mshtml
But, it being outdated AF and having LOTS of work to do to have it supported - it will take a hell of time to get it done...

The only thing I can recommend you RN is Virtual Machine with a passthrough - I've linked it here: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...=1#post5866211

The virtual machine method will work on desktop but I highly doubt it will work on the deck running Steam OS.

Also no matter the OS running on an html engine that is no longer supported by Microsoft is probably not a good idea for the launcher and a good reason to update careless the OS.

However I heartfully agree - it's quite bad to make security patches, just to force-rely on an outdated, proprietary tech.
